My son is moving out this week (yay!), and I am selling his Mercury Grand Marquis. Actually, mostly MY Grand Marquis, since I've paid for the insurance, much of the fuel, plus parts, etc...So, as a result, I'm taking a few of the good bits off it for the wagon. Such as the factory aluminum turbine wheels! My wagon has the god-awful factory wire wheel covers, so those are going on the sedan. His has a perfect spare tire, where the wagon spare is a little worn. Swap! I might buy new shocks for the wagon and put the used ones off the wagon on the Merc. The Merc shocks are just plain wore out! I'll have to see what the weather does this weekend and start to work on the parts swap!
From our experience there are too great times for sons. When they first arrive and when they grow up and leave!During all of the time in between they act like babies whining with their hands out!
Wagon has 215-70R15, and the sedan has 205-75R15. Stock sizes for both cars. Same diameter. Plus, I have brand new tires on the wagon, and those tires are going on the turbines.
Depending on the year of the cars, the 205/75R15 could be correct for sedan or wagon. That was the size used back in the early days of the Panther platform, when the optional 15 inch rims were selected. Base wheel and tire for all 3 bodybstyles was a 14 inch rim and a 225/75R14 tire. Later, sedans and wagons got the 215/70R15 tire as standard. Police Package cars came with a 225/70R15 100H tire.
Since you're putting the turbines on the wagon, you need to source a set of the 88-92(?) "Blue Oval" center caps. They look hella better than the original Ford and Mercury designs. And while you have the spare out, check the jack and lube it if necessary.
I do have that set of 88-92 Merc caps with the 'Waterfall' emblem. I may also have the factory locking lugs with key. I should go out and check.
