Hi, I've a 1988 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser wagon and want to fit a 6 way power seat to the front passenger seat. I've bought a wiring harness, armrest switch and bezel and a power seat track from a 1990 Buick estate wagon which I hope will be compatible. I wanted to ask if anyone has done this before and if they have any comments on how to do it and of any pitfalls I might face trying to carry it out? Thanks for your comments. Cheers.
The seat pedestal should just bolt right up. The wiring run and hookups would be covered in the 1988 Fisher Body and Olds shop manuals, respectively. As for the switch install, if the cushion frame has the hole already cut out, installing the switch would just be a 'snap.' If not, you'll have some cutting to do.
Yep got the correct bezel so the arm rest should be a snap. I've a nos harness from Vintage parts on the way but not sure if it will cover both the wiring from the track and armrest switch. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I've got a GM 1988 Body Service Manual, a 1990 General Motors Carline Service Manual, a 1988 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual and finally a 1988 Oldsmobile New Product Service Manual. Can you suggest where the info might be found in all those? Don't seem to have a Fisher Body book. Good to hear that the Buick pedestal track should just bolt up. Thanks for your comments. Cheers
I guess they don't call the body manual the "Fisher" manual anymore, so it should list where the harness is routed, and held down with what hardware. As for the electrical hookup, one of the manuals should say which circuit the seat power hooks to, and hopefully where it actually plugs in.

The wiring diagram is in the Chassis Service Manual. The wire routing is in the Body Manual. Did you get the rubber bellows that go between the door and the door jamb?
Hi Joe, Thanks for your posting. I think I have both books so I'll take a look. I didn't get any rubber bellows for the door jamb. I assume there is one for each front door already fitted. Do I need more? Cheers
Oh, wait. Is the seat control in the door armrest? I used to have an '87 Century, and the seat switch pack was in the side of the seat frame. I guess I got stuck on that design.
I'm anxious to see how this turns out. I have the 1990 Custom Cruiser, with the power driver's side. My wiring fitting that plugs into the switch is melted beyond use. I hope your conversion is easy. Is your car from Vatland Oldsmobile, in Vero Beach, Florida? Looks like it from your picture.
Hi Silvertwinkiehobo, The seat switch is located in the arm rest. I've got the switch and bezel and ordered a wiring loom from Vintage Parts but not sure if it will wire up both the track and armrest. Cheers
Hi Custom Cruiser 90, Yep that's the wagon from Vatland. Now a Honda dealer. Vintage Parts sell a GM wiring harness for the power seats which I understand can be used for both sides. Details are as follows- 1 20558275 - HARNESS ASM $28.63 USD I hope that helps you? Cheers.
