My folks never had a wagon when I was growing up but I always liked the cool ones. My wife grew up in the back of a wagon and has always hated them. Until recently. I finally talked her into a Subaru Outback that we promptly took on a tour of northern California and the Oregon coast. Now she's seeing the light and loves her Subaru. We have the 57 Buick Caballero that she grew up in that's in need of mucho restoration. We'll see where that goes or if we let it go. When I take some pictures of the poor old Caballero in it's lowly state I'll post em.
Stay on top of the maintenance and there's no reason why your Subie couldn't last 300+K or more. The highest-mileage one I ever worked on was a '96 that went 319K before the owner traded it for a 2012 Forester.
Where was that Oregon coast pic taken? Looks like around Coos Bay..... but I've only been up here 5 years, so not an expert.
Not sure if this picture was in California or Oregon. Everybody should take this drive at least once. The camping in Oregon's State Parks is fantastic. That was a great trip.
I can see where you got your user name. I normally don't like newer wagon type vehicles but I like that Subaru Outback. Or maybe it's just the nice scenery! That Buick should hold a lot of memories. Check thru this forum on other Caballero threads and hopefully you'll be inspired.
How is the interior space for the Outback? It used to be pretty small (made for small Japanese men) but I had heard that they were more comfortable now. It's good to see you can actually use your roof rack for your bicycles.
The Subaru is roomier than I thought it would be. Our friends have even commented on the interior space. Plenty of leg room and with the high ground clearance it's easy to get in and out of. On our coastal trip we packed for 7 days of travel including tent, cots, sleeping bags, bike gear, large ice chest and more. It worked out great.
