anyone ever see any car inconsistencies in the movies? i was watching driving miss daisy this afternoon and noticed an 80's volvo on a garage in the back ground in one scene. the other day i was watching Rudy and in one scene he was walking away from the stadium and there is a bronco II sitting there plain as day!!!
The one's I like are the chase scenes. Guy wrecks the right side of the car and two scenes later that side is just fine. I understand how this happens and why it happens but alert people watching the movie are confused! I have seen the inconsistencies in the years of vehicles too. Also look for the drinking glass. First scene shows it half full. Guy drinks from it and the next scene it's full. Or clothing....time of day...etc. Since I was in the business it's hard for me to watch movies...but I still love 'em.
Yep, everyday I seen them as a kid on TV, Dukes of Hazard, Starsky and Hutch, A-Team, McGyver. On the Movie note, in the movie, Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring, when Sam and Frodo were talking about how Sam only needed one more step to be as far from home as he had ever been, there is a car driving on the road in the distant background.
A1...I went through all that with Taranau way back. I spent a little over 4 years in Hollywood, 2 plus years in the business. I was a small film maker and TV director after managing a small studio. This was the only hiatus from my Ad business.
wow! thats pretty cool i know the movie business is one of the hardest industries out there and possibly the hardest to be successful. to play on my earlier point....dont they use contunuity editors anymore?
I can only presume so....I was there in the early to mid 70's. However...editing becomes a different domain. Especially if you don't have the footage.
Don't that drive you crazy. I noticed the miss daisy one when I was on break one day. The lady sitting next to me said "Only a gearhead like you would notice that!"
i love the police shows where they sling two hubcaps off a crown vic in a chase scene, but when they get the perp stopped, the police car always has all the hubcaps. Cannon was bad to sling hubcaps of his Lincoln too. I have noticed wrong year cars in movies set years ago, but i cant think of any right off hand.
blooper stuff From famous obvious stuff, like the green VW in Bullitt and the white Firebird in The Seven-ups,background cars have always caused Hollywood some embarrassment.Watch both those chases again and you'll notice several background cars making repeat appearances..In the Seven-ups,I guess they were thinking that Ford woodie wagons were so numerous, that nobody would notice that it was the same one, over and over again.I remember an episode of The Dukes Of Hazard, where the General Lee was a 68,not a 69,and they tried to hide it by having it fly thru a very thick cloud of dirt...AND,if you watch the original Vanishing Point, the car that smacks onto the bulldozers,at the end,is a Camaro, not a Challenger...I can remember watching TV car crashes where, the car that left the road was a Ford, and the one blowing up in mid-air,on the way down the cliff was a Chevy or a Dodge. tisk,tisk...In the Godfather, some of the nice old cars are out of place, but were chosen,to help create the atmosphere Coppolla was going for...And then, there's the movie Constantine, with Keanu Reeves. There's a scene where Constantine visits Hell, and when he first got there,my wife asked,"Why are there cars in Hell?"
i do remember in Smokey and the Bandit, when Jackie Gleason pulls around a line of cars in whats left of his LeMans, there is a Big Green Cadillac behind him, then after he pulls around the whole line of cars, he pulls up beside the same caddy.
of Mustangs and Bullitts A car magazine article,a few years back, had them numbered, but was not specific as to when during the chase...They said seven hubcaps come off the Charger.Three during the chase, and then all four when it leaps from the highway to the gas station,at the end.Only two "special effects" were used;(1)when the Charger glances off the back of a big truck and smacks a guardrail, the "dust" rising off of the guardrail is a gunpowder charge,and(2)visible in the shot, where the Charger leaps from the highway to the gas station,is a tow bar poking out from the right front fender of the Mustang...One of the two Mustangs used(neither of which was Steve's personal vehicle)was wearing "make-up".Ford sent the production company two Mustangs. Both with 390's,one with an automatic transmission. One of them came with the white GT stripes down the sides,at the bottoms of the doors.A crew member had to go out and get matching rubbing compound and cover them up.It is said,if you watch closely on a screen big enough, you can see the GT stripes anyway. In one shot, during the chase,Bullitt has to back up,because he's missed the turn. They sped the film up during this shot, because it took longer than that to actually back up the car with the tires spinning like that. The shot works, because Steve had been doing that a lot,was annoyed with himself and wasn't moving very much.I'm not 100% sure, but I think he looks at the camera during the shot. And lastly, yes,Steve DID do some of the driving! If,during the chase, you can see Steve's face,he's the one driving the car. There are several shots from behind and to the left of the car, where you can see Steve's face in the rearview mirror on the door---and other almost identical shots where you can't.When you can't see Steve's face, his stunt double Bud Eakins is in the car.And that's basically the rule for the whole chase. If you can see Steve's face,it's quite obviously him driving,if you can't see his face it's Bud.At the point during the chase where a motorcyclist dumps his bike on the road.it's Bud on,and off,the bike and Steve is driving the Mustang...Whew!That's a long post.
