My son in law (soon to be) traded to get this the other day got to ride/drive in it last night .HOLY SNIKIES! that thing will fly 5.3 ls4 v8 He did a burnout and had smoke coming through the vents! 40 -100+ one steady pull at least you wont get caught ..like how could a sedan lay like 200 feet both wheels wide footprint tracks! No officer that must have been a truck or something. thing is a monster i think i should trade him my van so he can take the granddaughter around safely!
Is it a Grand Prix GXP? We had one and loved it, 2006 model. Few things, if he beats on it too much, it will eat the transmission. They should have put a FWD Caddy transmission on these, made for a V8, but instead used the V6 transmission from the Supercharged cars. They last about 80-120K miles, and then need a rebuild. If the trans seems fine, I would change the oil and filter and install an external transmission cooler. Common mod on these cars and really prolongs the life of these. You can use the dash computer to pull up the transmission temp, and you'll see, these run HOT in stock build. Again GM should have known better. Second, if he can, take it and have the "displacement on demand" feature turned off. Most tuner shops can do this, it's just a computer mod. These cars seem to develop oil-burning issues and sometimes even engine failures, and it's all been traced to the cylinder deactivation feature. Mileage on these cars is pretty crummy to start with, (we averaged 12mpg)and will not change much with the displacement on demand shut off. It's worth if for the piece-of-mind. Oh and change the oil every 3K miles. I don't car what the manual says. What else... Oh it's common to have fogged headlights on these. New replacements are cheap on Ebay and if you put a good coat of car wax on then now and then, they will stay clear. Easy to install too. One other unique thing, the rear wheels are not as wide as the fronts. This is intentional for handling. Makes buying a set of new tires fun, they are different sizes!! Oh and also these cars do not have a spare tire, only fix-a-flat. GM said it was due to the odd tires sizes. I went to the salvage yard and pulled a donut and a jack from a junker regular Grand Prix. Did not want my wife driving with no spare, period. Oh another neat mod is to remove the resonator. It mounts directly under the interior. Just have it replaced with a straight-pipe. Makes the car sound awesome, but it's still quiet inside. Really makes the exhaust note sound awesome. Here's pics from the muffler shop: Resonator removed: Heavy-duty subframe for the 5.3 LS4 V8 Pipe welded in place of resonator She rumbles now! My 10-year-old Eddie filmed this...hahaha. Click the pic below to hear the exhaust with the resonator removed. - Vid This is a neat toy! GXP-exclusive Alcoa wheels. 18x8 in the front, 18x7 in the back. WEIRD! Heads-up display. Shows speed, turn signals, radio stations, compass, outside temp, and more. Fun gadget That was a FUN car with a great interior, awesome stereo, good seats, and tons of power. Post pics of yours if you can. -Mike
I thought it was you that had one the exhaust has been done with magnaflow 40's it sounds nice only 60,000 mils on it he traded even up for a v6 jetta
They are a pretty sweet ride I have to admit. My Buddy had one for a few years. Aside from the fact that it's wrong wheel drive, they can be a kick in the pants. I remember the funky front tire size being bigger than the rear tires size. Sounds like he got a good deal.
I agree on wrong wheel drive but it sure goes like stink! wider wheels on front for traction and to help torque steer!
