Always wondered how long that lane might be. Well, there's one hidden aspect of things that change yearly, like cars. You don't have to be an archeologist to guess the year. Just old enough to recall a few decades back. CapriceEstate, here's your 'Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz' moment. To be fair, HandyAndy sent me this link. What a road trip! It zizgzags through the country and through the years. Strap in, and cruise, from the 1920's to Anywhere. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/338226/page/1/fpart/1/vc/1
Three Stooge's Homes in NY and lots more This stuff is Memory Recovery! There's a lot of reasons to get ticked off with the Internet, but these picture sites are better than museums! I can see the value of taking pictures now. We cram in something like 50,000 ideas everyday, wiping out some memories on the Human Hard Drive. This site puts the pictures into classifications. This page is about the real 3 Stooges' homes: http://www.forgotten-ny.com/STREET%20SCENES/moeshouse/moehouse.html Check out the links to other US Cities: http://www.forgotten-ny.com/LINKS/links.html
Cool old pic's. Its nice to see some of those really old ones in colour. Thats how they really were originally not just restored.
That first link has 81 pages. If I registered, there's probably more pics to see, but that's enough for one grey, cold Saturday. Bit of ice pellets falling right now. Tomorrow's a good day to finish reinstalling the tranny. These picture sites are good way to pass the time today.
a time when life truly was simpler, all we had to worry about was the russians and keeping up with the joneses. back when kids used to play outside, instead of inside with video games on a sunny day. when you got hurt and dad told you to "suck it up". when nothing made your tremble in fear quite like the sound of dads belt comming off! (but you learned didnt you?) when a coffee shop was where you went to have real coffee with friends not use your laptop and talk on your cell while having a latte. when families used to play games like liscense plate bingo on road trips...not watch dvd's when people helped each other for the sake of doing it. when you could give someone from town a ride and not worry about getting mass murdered or car jacked. when coke came in a glass bottle, was made with real sugar, and was a treat...not a staple. most importantly When sunday was for God and family, nothing was open. everyone was off.
Well said! And look how clean the streets and sidewalks were. Community pride ruled the day. You knew your neighbours and their grandparents. Now we're just highspeed aphids feeding the money machine.
Normie, LOVE the pics, makes me want to have lived back then even more! But you finally stumped me with an older pop culture reference! I wish I had a nickel for every time I was told to 'suck it up' also, not only was the belt bad but the worse thing was the anticipation after 'just wait until your father gets home!' We never had video games, we were always outside, we were old-school farm kids! Like I've said, my life was like living 40 years prior to the actual time! And still, when we go somewhere, someone may have an iPod, but usually my folks and I have a conversation while the younger syblings enjoy their music.
