Very nice, Dave! I would sell my soul (well, maybe half of it...) for a nice '57 Caballero...... Joe (JMT455) found his '58 recently with the help of a forum member with a family connection to one. His story is just getting started. I'd LOVE to know a bit more about your story on QueenB58......... Marshall
Update of the QueenB Thanks....This will come as a surprise to you just as it did for me a couple days ago...Here is the short story: I was on the Automobile-Catalog website researching my 1958 Buick Century Caballero Estate Wagon that been restored and just realized that is it not what I thought it was…. It’s a Buick Series 40 Special Riviera Estate Wagon as offered for the year 1958 until September in North America U.S. … My vin # is 4E6013636…. I emailed Mr. Pawel Zal the editor-in Chief and founder of the catalog and this is the response I received: The car looks fantastic ! I will be very glad to present it in automobile-catalog... You are right, according to VIN it’s indeed Buick Special Riviera Estate Wagon (Series 40, model 49D) (the first number 4 in VIN indicates that it’s Series 40). As far as I know there were 3420 units manufactured, so it’s even rarer than Century Caballero (4456 units). Caballero and your Riviera looked almost the same, most important difference was in the engine (Caballero had more power and 4-barrel carb, 2-barrel in Riviera). The sheetmetal was the same, Caballero had additionally (comparing to Series 40) full wheelcovers, some more carpeting, foam rubber cushions, electric clock and dual horns. Price: 3265 USD (Riviera) and 3831 USD (Caballero) . Once again, the car is great ! Best regards Pawel With that said I'm sorry I misrepresented my own car.....DAWG!.. I hope I still get That-A-Boy and thankful for the pleasant surprise correction.... :2_thumbs_up_-_anima Kindest Regards Dave N FL (For the QueenB) 40Series 1958 Buick Here is the link and I would encourage you to check it out...Great research data available......Pass it on: http://www.automobile-catalog.com/
I hope I still get That-A-Boy and thankful for the pleasant surprise correction.... :2_thumbs_up_-_anima Kindest Regards Dave N FL--------------- At-A-Boy Dave ! It's still a Buick and a darn nice looking station wagon! After over 25 years many still call our Handyman wagon a Nomad. Actually happy it's not a Nomad. I'd be afraid to drive it then. The rain keeps me away....> Not fair. We live 140 miles north. It is usually sunny when we head for Old Town but often rains when we get there at Days Inn across the road.
The '58 hardtop wagons were the last of their line because the all new Buick wagon for '59 had a roof design that didn't lend itself to being a 'hardtop'. The '58's were 211.8" long on a 122" wheelbase, while the '59's were 217'4" long on a 123' wheelbase. Here's a pic from the '59 Buick brochure showing one of their 4-door hardtop (not a wagon) models: (I don't want to embed this because it's just too big...) http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/buick/59buick/3.html Now here's the wagon: http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/buick/59buick/6.html A lot of commonality among GM wagons for '59 and '60.
Somehow I missed welcoming you aboard in June so I ;ll do it now. aboard hope you enjoy the forums. I am a bit curious that you didn't know what your car was, how is it titled on the permit? However I will still give you "an at a boy" you have a bueatiful car there...whatever it is.
1979 Impala I tried to get a picture up but having difficulty uploading the image. I've had my car since new and it now has 608,000 miles on it and is still going strong. Jim H.
