Current bid $3,800 with reserve not met, only a day or so to go on the auction. Something tells me the reserve on this one is quite a bit higher.......

This 'Carriage Roof Package' option on this one is something I never knew about, or at least forgot completely. Don't think I've ever seen one of these with the stainless steel cap on the forward roof. Chrysler seems to be copying Cadillac here, which came out with the Biarritz stainless steel roof on the Eldorado the previous year.

I've never heard of it and cannot find factory photo documentation, but here it is in the field as an example possibly junked with the stainless steel roof, much like the 1979-85 Eldorado Biarriatz!

    Also really like the wheels!

Beautiful car! Looks like it will not sell, though. Bidding is slow with half a day left. Forum members who've owned them say these are great road cars.

I've never seen that many cars covered up since a Daytona street rod show. Now I know why this one is for sale. Couldn't find a large cover for it.
    Sure looks nice!

Chrysler learned a lot about downsizing their big cars from GM's success with the B and C bodies. They tried to mimic that with the R-body Newport, St Regis, New Yorker, and Gran Fury. But the execution wasn't too great and quality control at the time was not enough to make these last.

I like R-bodies and wish they had coupes and wagons as well.

No wagons, but wasn't this last big Imperial on that platform?

Imperial was based on a marada chassis cross ways torsion bars not the best for handling.
