My husband and I just purchased a 1979 Chrysler Labaron Town and Country and are just thrilled! A whole new world has opened up to us!
Maceydoo to a whole new world of station wagon excitement.! Pictures and a little about you and your plans will get us all headed down the highway of this wonderful world of wagons.
We picked up our new treasure today, got her all cleaned up on the outside and then spent some time cleaning the inside dash, seats, doors and windows. I will have to take some pictures tomorrow! We need to bring her to our mechanic and have him help us with the muffler system. The cadillac converter has been removed and it needs some help to quiet her down! We purchased the car for our son to drive and he had his first driving lesson today in the parking lot of the local mall!! No he actually did well!! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
That's the best laugh I've had all day! Welcome to the SWF. Can't wait to see pics of your Le Baron Town & Country. And please, don't convert it to a Cadillac! Marshall
How exciting for you all... Is the car for your son to drive? He'll have alot of car to help protect out there. Hope you enjoy the forums.
Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes, our son will be driving the car back and forth to his college classes. This is our new girl!
Frame We are wanting to replace our vinyl wood grain panels and have been looking into purchasing some online, my question is this....... After several people have looked at the frame part of the panels ( which is very light/white and faded ) we can not decide what the material is- Our mechanic and I are of the opinion it is actual wood, my husband and others think plastic, before we can restore it we need to know what was used on a 1979 Chrysler Le Baron Town and Country Any help is greatly appreciated!
The dark, wood-grained inner part is a stick-on vinyl product, commercially called 'Di-Noc', made by the 3M company. You will not be able to find the same material. Check out 'Woodgrain' subsection for sources.... http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28 The outer, 3-dimensional trim is a molded plastic, and it may be wrapped in the Di-Noc. I'm not sure on that point. The fading and discoloring is a known problem with these LeBaron Town & Countrys.I don't know of a way to restore them. Some owners have attempted to paint or stain them, with sometimes poor results. The moldings on this one here are too dark: Here's a pic from a brochure, to show what they looked like new. Just click on it - too large to embed the image here. http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/chrysler/leb/bilder/3.jpg I think the wood you should be trying to duplicate is a white ash.
