You make a valid point. All the ball busting I get from the old school guys about how its not worth crap because its a 4 door. I went to a cruise a couple weeks ago for "Pontiac night" and I was literally the only 4 door Pontiac...period! ...so who has the rare car?
As much as we love our 1955 Chevy 2-door wagon, if I drove it regularly as our daily driver, I 'd rather have a 4-door. I remember the times we used it on camping vacations with the kids. A real pain in the behind.
My thinking exactly, Ian. From what I remember back to the '65 model year, Pontiac marketed the 4-door Le Mans as a 'luxury' mid-size model. This is similar to the way Chevy marketed the Caprice 4-door hardtop, when it came out mid way through the '65 model year. That seat upholstery you have is much nicer than any other GM intermediate of that period.
You know, if someone has the gall to even mention it that says a lot about how insignificant and insecure that person actually is and their opinion isn't worth even responding to. Laugh and walk away. Who cares what they think, you are not there to please them, you are there with a car you enjoy and are proud of (and rightfully so) to enjoy yourself and if it makes them think they are the keepers of good taste they just proved they are out of their league. Enjoy the car, it is neat and uncommon, it is yours, you are having fun with it, and if someone has derogatory comments to make about it that is too bad for them. They are missing the opportunity to enjoy some really nice cars. Those people are not worth listening to. I popped into a Pontiac only car show recently, parked across the street, did a walk about and a good third of the cars on display were 4 doors proudly displayed and just as pretty as the hardtops and convertibles. People were as delighted and interested to look at them and reminisce about them as they were the ring dang do cars. On Friday evening I popped over to a tool store that hosts a Friday evening cruise in about ten minutes from home. I took the Chevelle and parked beside a mid 70's Ford four door sedan, nice clean looking car, young fellow driving it. He had as many people looking at his car and commenting as I did with the Chevelle. He was excited, very proud of his "find", and it was great to see.
Coincedently, I happen to have this die-cast collectible sitting on my shelf. Yeah, it's a GTO, but appears to have the same colors as yours, down to the black vinyl top. And yeah, I know - a pretty lousy replica. It's a cheap Maisto.
A couple of my friends want old, collectable cars, but keep complaining about the price of the muscle 2 doors and convertibles. That they have kids is forgotten. I keep telling them to look at the 4 doors, both the sedans and the hardtops. After all, every performance and handling option you could get on a GTO was available on, or can be added to, a Lemans 4 door. That car you have a beautiful, and meant to be enjoyed! Drive the old girl, and let the snobs pay the premium for less car.
Yeah, I totally dig your car. It's not the same as a two door, or a convertible. But that isn't a detraction. In some cases I actually prefer the look of the four door in some years and models of cars. All of that said, it is a beautiful car in it's own right. It is styled an proportioned just right and is unmistaken ably a 60s Pontiac. I am glad you got it and I hope you enjoy the heck out of it. As to the last point, enjoy parking it next to all of the first gen Mustangs and Tri-Five Chevy's at the next cruise in.
You may want to get a copy of the October, 2014 issues of Collectable Automobile magazine. There is a full feature article on this generation of A-Body Pontiacs, including the 4 doors and wagons. They sure are SWEET cars.
if i can find that one i live in the middle of nowhere! marshall, that color is called "bluemist slate metallic"
