I was coming home from Church on Sunday with the family when I passed this wagon slowly making its way up a hill on the highway. I only had time to snap a pic, honk and give the old guy driving a thumbs up and wave before traffic caught up and I had to drive on by.

Can anyone tell me what it is? It was in amazing condition and the driver looked old enough to possibly be the original owner.

    Thanks!

    Dave

Looks Like a Chevy Corvair Wagon to me, they only made them for about 3 years in the early 60's.

Tedy you beat me to the punch by a few seconds!!!!

    Thanks,

I thought it might have been a corvair, but I wasn't able to get a look at the front.

Looks like it's a 700 as it has the chrome strip. Also, the fact's that it's a tu tone might indicate it's the dressier model as well.

Nice looking Corvair. Wonder why he's driving with the left rear door ajar?
Wonder if he knows it is ajar? Wonder if he has room for a few jars of jams and jellies?

Looks to me like he has chrome door edge guards - never liked those things. Broke up the appearance of the vehicle.

So, was the wagon rear engine as well? And was a third seat an option, or did the engine preclude that from happening?

Yeah. Designed just like a VW 411, the engine access is through the cargo floor.

Yeah - no third seat. it's too small for that. If you had a couple little buggers who were misbehaving, you just threw them in the front 'trunk'.........

Just like this Corvair powered van. The engine is in the rear under the bed. At least people could ride in the way-back bed.
