Filed under: Budget, Wagon, Recalls, Safety, Hatchback, Kia Kia is recalling certain 2014 models of its adorable Soul due to a bad adhesive used in the steering system. According to the bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the "thread-locking adhesive" that attaches the plug between the pinion gear and steering gear assembly could come loose. Should that happen, the condition could lead to a "loss of steering," which, of course increases the likelihood of a crash. The 51,641 affected cars were built between July 21, 2013 and January 17, 2014. There have been no reported accidents, let alone injuries or deaths due to this issue. Kia is in the process of notifying owners of the affected vehicles as well as dealers in possession of the faulty Souls. Scroll down for the official bulletin from NHTSA.Continue reading Kia recalls over 50k new Soul compacts over steering issue Kia recalls over 50k new Soul compacts over steering issue originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 18 Jul 2014 10:16:00 EST. its adorable Soul The technical term for CUTE as fannie often says! So rather than a little locking tab on the parts to keep them attached we depend on Super Glue!
KIA recalling 50K Souls... Doesn't that sound...like a God complex??? I rented one of these crap-traps a year ago. Electrically-assisted steering and brakes. What a darting, skittish little POS these are! I couldn't wait to turn that damn thing back to the rental car agency!
I don't tow a lot of them. Compared to Fortes, Rios, Elantras, Accents, Optimas, and Sonatas, I might as well have NEVER towed a Soul. Pretty reliable. Nice to see Kia recalling and getting ahead of a problem before anyone gets hurt, unlike Toyota-GM-Ford-Chrysler who seem to wait for people to DIE before they issue recalls for things like steering, brakes, and fires. *rolls eyes*
To be honest, if my wife and I get our own roadside/towing company off the ground, I plan on buying these things used for roadside assistance cars. They're roomy, get 30mpg, and are easy to get in and out of quickly. That's the sort of thing I pay attention to at car shows so I know what would work. A floor jack, fuel cans, lug wrench, bag of tools, lockout kit, jump pack, and binder of paperwork would all fit behind the rear seat. And that way if a tow truck shows up on scene and there's four people in the disabled car, well, they can't ride in the car or in the tow truck so send one of these to pick them up and follow (and then bill the roadside company an extra half hook and double mileage for the taxi ride).
And you can do the same thing with a Pontiac Aztek and it is just as fugly. Today 11:57 AM Going out in the garage to go to work early in the morning would be like waking up to an ugly wife!
Now I'd rather drive a toaster or a washing machine. Here's my reply from the posts -------- except you have to have the mentality of a rodent to even consider being seen in one of the hunks of crap
