Hey anybody ever pull the gas tank out of a 68 Ford country squire wagon. Give me some tips and some direction to attack this thing. Thanks Gary
Gary what ya real wants ta do is go here first----Click right on those words.-------- >The Welcome Wagon Then check out the many posts already here about fuel tanks.
Got a reading assignment for you - (member) Dr. B. Smith's project thread on his '67 Country Squire. Brian virtually rebuilt his entire wagon, and I'm sure the gas tank is covered in there, somewhere. I'm sure Brian would also be happy to answer any questions you have if you send him a PM. (As a note, the '67 and '68 big Fords are very similar. Different front sheet metal, but most of the rest is very much the same.) Marshall Dr. B. Its very easy to remove. 1. There is a panel that must first be removed. It is located behind the drivers side rear wheel. If memory serves, there are 3-4 screws that hold it in place. 2. Use a Siphon to drain tank from the fuel cap at least below the level of the sending unit otherwise it will leak out when you remove the fuel line. 3. Remove the plug for the sending unit and disconnect the fuel hose. 4. Next you will need to remove the rubber/seal that is located under the fuel door. This holds/seals the neck of the tank to the top of the car. Just simply open the fuel door and you will see how it comes out. 5. There is large nut and bolt that hold a bracket across the bottom of the tank. It should simply drop down from there. If you tank is anything like mine and as 65-68 tanks are very hard to find, you will want to use these guys below. They are awesome. I was lucky that I only live 25 minutes from them. They do get tanks from across the world and are the best in the business. Moyers in Greensburg PA is the best and excellent prices. They will restore your original tank and it will be better than new. http://www.gas-tank.com/ __________________
Gary, I forgot to mention...in case you are only repairing a faulty sending unit..which is most likely due to a sunken float, you do NOT need to drop the tank. That is why there is the access panel behind the rear wheel. The bung for the sending unit is on the front facing side of the tank.
