The Toronado XS is a very unusual car. It was made for only one model year, 1977, and only 2,718 were made compared to 31,371 "regular" Toronados that year.

The base price of the XS was $10,684, which was huge at the time as the regular Toronado had a base price of $8,134 and the most expensive Olds 98 that year was a much-milder-by-comparison $7,133.

Below are two pages from the Olds 1977 brochure. They describe the Toronado "XSR," which was a version of the XS that never made it into production. The second image at the top gives a good view of the roof and back window treatment.

The asking price for the craigslist car of $3800 seems very reasonable to me as the car looks to be in good condition and would be a truly unique find.

Correction. It was made for two model years, 1977 and 1978. Production was about the same at a little over 2,000 each year.

Very rare and unique car for the price.

Who cares about the Olds...I'm interested in the Fork-Tailed Devil, the P-38. Just kidding, the car is pretty clean, although the driver's seat pad looks to be lumpy and in need of a new foam filler.

Price drop to just $3000. What a deal for a loaded up, very rare and certifiable 1970s land yacht! :bouncy:

Very cool. I cannot recall ever seeing one of these. Oooooh. Do I spy a '67 Buick GS ragtop back there? :scratchchin:

I only remember seeing 1 before, parked in the driveway of a house in a very bad area of Saginaw MI back in the early 80's. I remember passing it on the way to work and never seeing it move. I noticed the wrap around rear window, and did not recognize the year or Model, and at the time I could tell almost any domestic year and Model. Now I know what it was!
