    No kidding!?

The VW fans will froth at the mouth over a 23 window van like this one. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be much left of this one. On the bright side.....no sorrow here....I'm not a VW fan.

Considering that a nicely restored one of these went for over $100k at a B-J auction a couple of years ago, I can see where the seller is going with this one.

At what point is a car no longer a "restoration", but a "built-from-the-wheels-up-with-NOS/reproduction-parts" new car?

Maybe it's a "restoration" if the original VIN plate hasn't rusted away?

The only things that look salvageable from this car is the window glass ... and maybe the plastic tail lights. Oh, yeah, and the VW emblem :p

Barn door buses bring crazy amounts of money but this isn't a barn door bus even though it's listed as such. Also from what I understand the last barn doors were produced in 1955.

I hope whomever bought it found a treasure once they cleaned all the sh*t off of it.

    The rust looks excessive.

Have a car guy friend around here. His youngest son brought one home, and everybody laughed at the young guy. He restored that thing (quite well) and sold it for a boatload of money............and taught us all a good lesson.

That happens a lot, I used to be huge in the Bug, Bus, Fastback, Ghia and Square/Notch back scene. The difference between purchase and selling price was insane.

Notch back?????? You know what they are? You're among the few. I bought one while I was in the Army in Germany. Drove over there for about 2 years. About the time I was scheduled to come home, there was a dock strike, so the military took over shipping GI's cars home. I sent mine back for about 100.00, IIRC. Nobody in Iowa had any idea what I was driving in 1969...........

Kind of a cool little car actually, I'm not positive they were ever produced for the American market. I have only seen maybe 2 in person at a VW rally
in Orange County about 15 years ago.

There's a small group (maybe6) that show up on Sundays at the Pomona swap meet to hang out in the VW section
