Well...at least in my opinion this guy has delusions. Now...the difference here is that it's a nice car. But...it IS a repaint and someone DID put a new vinyl top on it. Both those things scare me. Never know what's under there. Give me an old honest car everytime. This guy has the car on for a second round. He starts at $3700 which I think is a good plenty. First time around, he get's $4900. Nope...not enough so he's back again with no bids so far. I like the car ok but wonder what's under the paint and especially under that new vinyl. Maybe it's just me...maybe the car IS worth $6000. But.....not to me.

These had the vinyl top as an option.

I think the dark green vinyl top helps break up all that light green. It is a nice car, but not high dollar nice.

I always get suspicious when a seller avoids taking a picture of the drivers side of the front seat. That entrance view is all part of the curb appeal.

Oh, yeah, Pat...I know that. What I don't know is if it rusted under there and if the old vinyl was removed and the top sanded and treated correctly. I've seen cars that had the vinyl glued right over the rust to hide it rather than just fix it. I'm sure you have seen old vinyl top cars with rust bumps all over under the vinyl. That vinyl can cover a lot of problems in many areas. I'm not saying THIS wagon is like that...I'm saying that when stuff is freshly covered up you can't be aware of what's under there.

LOL...me TOO, TMG! The first pic I look for is the full driver's seat. What I really don't like is when they shoot a zillion pix and have all the bad stuff JUST out of frame. Just show the car is what I say. Hiding stuff is just going to come back to haunt you in the end.

    I am occasionally delusional...

but maybe my car is not your cup of tea. Ha.

This is my car and I have nothing to hide. I have been on this board for a few months , mostly lurking, but I have gotten some great information from you all!

If you look at the window sticker you will see that the car came with a factory vinyl top, but it was faded and had shrunk in the sun. Likewise with the paint.

I have provided folks who have asked any picture they would like, and I appreciate the front seat suggestion. I will add one to the listing.

The first "winner" of the auction proceeded to demand I change hoses and fluids and the windshield and GUARANTEE that the car would make the trip from Denver to Chicago. I cannot do that! So I returned his deposit and relisted it. Ebay can be very frustrating.

If anyone here is interested in the car, let me know. I'm happy to provide all I know about it.

It won't go 200 MPH and save the emissions to make sodapop (CO2)?

Can't believe that people would even ask for all that stuff on a 41 year old car?

Good luck with the sale. Hope you get a fair price.

Thanks, John...I appreciate your post and I DID say it's a nice car. I only used it as an example of things I don't like when I can't be there to see and touch the car. I often wondered if some of the sellers of wagons on Ebay are members here or, at least, lurkers. Yes...sellers have their problems on Ebay too. Frankly, it's a PITA for both sides. My pic suggestions are to always show the FULL driver's seat and the TOP of the dash pad as well as the full dash front. And, in the case of wagons, a full pic of the cargo area with seats up AND down. IIRC, your cargo shot was a low angle that left the viewer unable to see the floor and sides of the inside of that area. And If I remember...I think your full car shots were quite far away...people don't like that when looking for a car. Anyway, John...good luck and thanks for your candor. It appears to be a good example of what I love...the fine old Buick wagons.

Looks like a nice wagon to me but like you always say silverfox, "I want to see it first".

$6000 is not that bad for a nice clamshell either in that kinda shape!

Good Luck with the sale cadillacbart you just have to find the right buyer & don't give it away either!

My dream clamshell is a '77 Kingswood 350, white, loaded & wire caps!

I was thinking the same thing when the buyer came to pick up my Caprice!

He was looking it over and I just finally told him "if you don't want it I'll just give you your deposit back OK, how's that", he didn't want to hear that!

    My baby will be missed!

The old reverse-psychology line, eh? :biglaugh: Trouble is, we usually mean it when it comes to old-faithfuls. Then you have to face the SWMBO and tell her why you didn't take the cash. :taz: :slap:

When I first saw the picture of it,I was pretty sure this was the wagon you and I had been talking about. And,because I know, from taking pictures of my 86 Colony Park, that cameras can be kind to nice old cars,an in person inspection would probably be preferable to buying blindly from a distance.I'm thinking it looks pretty good. And,if present situations didn't disallow,I might drop by from LA and do that inspection...The way we had talked about it,I thought new belts and hoses had been part of what you'd done---but,if not, that's part of what I'd have to do.As Norman pointed out,it's a 41 year old used car,not a brand new one off the lot, with a warranty. As for the windshield and guaranteeing traveling distance, not even used car lots take care of that!..Unless the windshield is cracked. In California, lots can't sell cars with cracked windshields, not even in "as-is" condition...If it's not cracked, there's nothing for you to do.If I want a crystal clear view out the front of the car, once again, that would be part of what 'd have to take care of.

    Hello,

Yes it does have new belts, but not hoses. Well maybe some hoses, I can't remember off the top of my head. The point was with this guy is that I had sold it to him, and I would plan expect to inspect and replace those kind of things myself. Truth be told, if someone's a car guy and acting civilly, I would generally get a car as roadworthy as I could for a long trip before I turned it over to them. Things work out in the end , I guess.
