    Okay what did you calculate? ( 9MPG, 40, or 50MPG? )
I actually had a 1987 Ford Escort that got a consistant 50MPG. I wouldn't lie because I really didn't like that car. Sure wish I had it today.

The 400 2 barrel I had in my 78 F-250 crew cab (2wd) got about 12 empty or loaded, up hill or down hill, High way or city. Was the most consistent fuel mileage I've ever had. Less power than the 460, a couple more mpgs.

He forgot to carry the "1" and misplaced the decimal point by a few places.

Even a say, 1993 55 hp 1.0 ltr 3 banger GEO Metro 2 door hatch with a 5 speed, with a curb weight of 1650lbs can only reach a average tested 42mpg. Thats almost 1/3 the weight of the 460 powered 70 CS stated earlier in this post.

Thats 1/7 the size of the engine with 1/4 the HP and around 1/3 the weight. It is also alot more aerodynamic and the power to weight is very simular.

After many grueling hours of scientific testing and debate that a carburated 351 or a 460 wagon getting anywhere close to a high of even 10mpg(460) to 15mpg(351) in a 4800+ pound aerodynamically challenged brick with wheels, we have come to the conclusion that ..........

After all of this is said and done--okay, it'll never be done, I wonder how I got a consistant 50MPG with that 1987 Ford Escort 2-door with a throttle body carb and manuel tranny? I was so amazed that it was the only vehicle that I kept every gallon used on record.
As previously written someplace, the Ford guys at the garage said it had an experimental carb. They wanted to remove it because it should have never gotten out.
I removed my little Escort, carb and all, and never went back to the dealer! To make it worse, after only driving the pitiful under powered thing only a week, I had tried to trade back for whatever I traded or something of equal value.
That's when I found out a new 1987 car is now a used car worth 3/4 or less what it was a week before!.
I learned to like it. But it did get 50 MPG city and highway. Another thing, the electric fan rarely came on. :taz:
It was my tow behind car with our motorhome. No I didn't count the towed miles! Drove it till 1994 when I traded for a Chevy van to move my junk to Florida.

The Merc weighed in at 5434lbs. The best mpg i got was 10.7 cruising @ 60 mph. If i'm banging back and forth to town, i only get 8.1 to 8.9. I used the wagon for one week to respond to fire calls and only got 6.2 mpg:drink:

    Easier to install than find.

Partly right; dual facing rear seats are hard to find. But if I can swap them in, it must be easy. Converted our '87 Colony Park LS yrs ago w/ parts fr a matching colour Country Squire. Hardest part was getting the mount brackets positioned correctly; the 2 near the front are factory welded to the seat well side.
