My hometown is much the same way. They outlawed..ahem...Gentlemen's Clubs a few years ago and have been harassing the one remaining business that was grandfathered ever since. City councillors were constantly complaining that they're signs were too big, their new sign was animated, the building isn't being maintained correctly, the parking lot is too full etc. They just won't leave the guy alone. I've never been there but it has been doing a booming business for years so clearly lots of people make use of it. The City continuously claims there's no reason for it to be there and people should go to the next town over for that sort of thing. Pretty sad really.

 

Too Big ?

---yea right? There are only a few things in life I enjoy, old vehicles, coffee, and bbs. Just read another story about a man in California who has been working on his home for 30 years. Now being fined and torn down because of codes, etc. It's a free Country if we can afford it. And that preacher who feels badly because a money making business was closed down. Him and the zoning board don't have a real life. I say if you don't like something, don't go there or don't look. It happens everywhere. Every town and city rewrites the rules to prevent topless or nude places. It is not really illegal for women to go topless anyplace! Those things are not reproductive organs. Yet towns and counties make their own rules. Even Daytona Beach, home of the bikini, outlawed thongs and bikinis that expose too much skin...according to city laws! Yet the wealthy and famous dress anyway they want and flaunt it on TV, movies, and in public! I'm mad now!!!!!!!!!! I think I better go out in the garage and pound on something.

 

I wouldn't want it around my children, though. Save that stuff for the big cities. Small towns are supposed to be family-oriented.

 

hmmm....conflicting feelings here.
I say, take the tax revenue and shut up already. Seems to me, from the pic, that the place does a good business with both male and female customers.
I have a really big problem with do-gooders that tell everyone else how to live their lives.

 

My town was the flashpoint for the groudbreaking decision that Canadian women should be allowed to go topless anywhere. A university student was arrested for being topless and fought the matter to the highest court to win the right to be as topless as a man. (that later was amended to prevent them from going topless anyplace that they were likely to go topless. OK on city streets but not at beaches or public pools:confused
The City had no problems cashing in on that notoriety but strangely they have trouble with boobs being made available for viewing indoors where only those of age-of-consent can view them. Not sure I understand.

Mixed Emotions

This is just like real life. Differences of opinions. We all have the right to like and dislike anything. I agree, not something for the kiddies. However I have seen adults take children to nude beaches and nudist parks and they think it is normal. ( Don't ask how I know) I don't believe in that. But what goes on inside a fence or inside a club where mommies and daddies know it, they shouldn't take the rug rats. And usually the rules state 21 and older. This is what messed up large bike events! We don't go to Nursery Schools. Keep the kids out of our playgrounds! I repeat, look at what Stars wear on the news and on TV. Those kids see that!

 

Topless men !!!

On the other hand............... If I went in a restaurent or bar and was served by a topless male, i believe I would leave. I don't want kinky hair in my soup! Maybe I'd call the newspaper or the Mayor. Maybe I'd call the police or my pasture. Naw, I'd just leave because this is supposed to be a free country and if a manager wants to hire a male topless waiter or stripper that's his right. What a novel idea!

If you're going to be forcing businesses to close, you cannot complain about the state of the economy and how there are no jobs to be found.

Whether or not you agree with the a business practice of topless coffee shops, it was an innovative business idea, seemed to be doing extremely well, and promoted the movement of in a small-town local economy.

I grew up in a small town, and so have probably many of you. I have seen how hard it can be for a business to grow in rural communities due to how close-knit the people are, and how hard it can be to get them to change their habits.
That is why so many small towns are dying, as the young people move to big cities. You (anyone in that small town) can't complain or wonder why all their kids want to move away from home when you systematically attack a business you don't personally like.
