Couldn't wait for summer... I just booked a flight to visit my younger sister in Saskatchewan in May. A ray on sunshine in this loong winter. I just hope winter will be done in the prairies by then...that wouldn't be funny!
looking towards a vacation in """""Saskatchewan""""?????................ sheeeze, I didn't realize just how bad a winter you on the East Coast until I read this thread!
It depends on the money. If there isn't enuff there, I'll just have to send my mind out on one without the rest of me
Yes sir!!!! We are doing Georgis to NC to WI and back. My build up thread has been chronicling the build of our '66 Ranch Wagon!
I know the girls at work, four of which have been to Cuba this year, think I'm nuts...but that's where my baby sister is. She and I were on line and on the phone together the other night looking for things to do in Saskatchewan in May...there's really not much going on in May in Saskatchewan. Oh well, it's the cheap flight season, I had Air Miles and I'm getting away from work for a bit and I'm getting to see my sister. I haven't seen her for almost 5 years. She's getting burnt out, she has a personal care home and is pretty much tied to it 24/7 and has been at it for about 20 years. She is really looking forward to my visit, it changes up her routine a bit and gives her something to plan for. So Saskatchwan it is!
Cross country Seriously thinking about doing a x country in the RM. From FL. to my sister's in Northern California. has anyone made this trip? I just can't stand the idea of taking a plane and having to leave the dogs home.
I've made the trip several times from Memphis to NorCal. It's a long haul and even longer from FL. My goal was just to get there and I tried to make 800 miles a day. Make sure your car is in tiptop condition and you have a tool kit to make repairs along the road. Once you get past Amarillo, there are long stretches where there are no towns, fuel is scarce, cell phones won't work, etc. You will be crossing mountains and desert, so prepare for any emergencies that might happen there. I hit a blizzard in Amarillo once and heavy fog once. There was no place to pull over and I had to watch my GPS to see what the road was doing. I could only see the yellow line and nothing ahead of me. This was in the CA mountains. Finally caught up to a semi and was able to follow him until we found a rest stop. Once, I got a chunk of carbon that stuck my EGR valve open, but I knew what the problem was and had the tools to remove it and clean it out. Also, there is a stretch of desert after Barstow and you need a full tank of gas when you leave there or you won't make it to the next gas station. What else do you need to know?
Is is just monotonous and boring? Or is there enough cool stuff to see along the way to keep it interesting? Been through NV and CA desert a few times. More curious about the FL-TX--NM stretch.
It's only boring the 2nd and successive times. Lots of old cars sitting along I-40 all the way out to pique your interest and some nice scenery. You could drop off and make the loop up to the Grand Canyon area. I think a lot of these old derelicts you see for sale are coming off the Indian Reservations out that way.
