Low Mileage with an added Vnyle top. Looks like it could be a lot of fun. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en#ht_181wt_1343 Story has it that it was a supervisors car, bought my someone in the maintenance department for his mother in law, he added the black top to "dress it up" and she hated it and refused to drive it, so he parked it in his barn for 40 years. It has all the indications of being the real thing, 4-door sedan body style, 455 HO engine, certified Speedo, no A/C, pwr windows or locks, has the rear seat cage in the trunk, no body side trim. If I had room for it I would be very tempted, and if it didn't have a blue interior (my wife really hates Blue interiors for some reason)
Well I got stupid and bought it for $5300 I didn't actually expect to win it. Looks like I an driving to Cleveland soon.
Now all you need is a camera, a buddy, a couple of black suits and a Chicago backdrop, and you can do a Blues Brothers re-make with the Pontiac.....
Yea my wife has already started "Its got Cop Shocks! Cop Tires! Cop Suspension! and it a Model that was built before catalytic converters so it will run great on regular gas!!!! Not that you can buy regular gas. Dame income Tax Refund anyway, it was just burning a Hole in my pocket for weeks now!!!!
The Pontiac Historical Services Package came in today, answered some questions, and posed a couple of others. It has a HD Frame, I am assuming this means a Boxed Convt frame. The Engine is Listed as a 4bbl 455 Perf. There is some confusion on this as according to the available info Pontiac only made 3 models of 455's in 71 D-port 2bbl and 4bbl engines rated at 285 & 325hp. And they normally do not have "Perf" listed next to them. And the very rare round Port 455 HO engines that are listed as only available in F or A Bodies. Dual Exhaust is another option listed, again not supposed to be available in a Full Size B-body. I am thinking that added Dual Exhaust to the D-port 4bbl may make it a "Perf" version. I will find out Friday what engine it actually has. It also had the Freeway Enforcer Option Package, that I do not know what that includes, other than HD Front and Rear Sway bars. They could be ordered seperatly but the note with them states they are included in the Freeway Enforcer Package. And it has what is listed as Extra Heavy Duty R Springs and shocks, And HD Full Vinyl Front and rear seats. Now for the Comfort options Custom Full Wheel Covers, so it did not have Dog Dish's Stock, it will in the near future as I do not care for the full hub cap look. Custom Cushion Steering Wheel Rear Window Defogger Full Tinted Glass Remote Trunk Release and In Dash Electric Clock. The added Vinyl Top is explained by the Roof Wiring Harness With Plate So it had a roof light, most likely a large single style. And it was always a all Cameo White Car so never a Black and White, so probably original paint. The paperwork has a large Stamp saying TAX EXEMPT and was sold at a in town dealer called V.T. Angle Sons. Now the location of a Taco Bell. I think I did alright, and on the slim chance it is a round port car I hit the Lottery. But I doubt it. The fact that it has a cracked passenger side exhaust manifold has some convinced it is a round port engine as the Long branch 71-72 manifolds tend to crack at least 50% of the time. I leave to pick it up Friday. I will let everyone know what it actually is. I am sure I will not be disappointed. As a side note, I E-mailed the Chambersburg PD to see if they had, or may know someone who might have some pictures of their cars from the 71-74 time frame. They apparently forwarded my message to the towns newspaper. Their Photo Editor is going to look in the files and see if they have any Pictures. I might get lucky, fingers crossed.
'Freeway Enforcer Package' more than likely included a lower number rear end ratio......higher top speed.
Pretty cool car. Does the dual snorkel air cleaner signify anything special or was that standard fare for all 4bbl 455's? Interesting that the certified speedo only goes up to 120. Can't wait to see pics with the dog dishes.
I am leaving to pick it up Tomorrow, we are making a weekend of it so my wife the amateur Photographer can shoot some film in her old camera's. As for the duel snorkel air cleaner it seems to be a hit or miss thing on 71 4bble 455's, maybe a early/late production thing I do not know yet, still a rookie when it comes to pre 1977 Pontiac B-bodies, the only ones I have owned prior were 65 2+2 and 63 Bonneville Convertibles. No one knows what the PERF one the engine data line of the Build sheet actually means. Some Pontiac guys are convinced that it means a round Port 455 HO But I doubt that, as that engine was not supposed to be an option on the full size cars. But neither was dual exhaust and the build sheet clearly shows a $30 charge for dual exhaust. I guess I will find out Friday!
Cool car not a wagon but still has that odd cool factor and I like that. Have some fun with it, I don't think you did bad by way of price one bit. I think if you put a few bucks into it you should still come out all right if you wanted to sell it. And still had a blast and learned some new stuff.
