    Rare sightings.......

Was coming back from The Good Guys custom car show at the Orange County Fairgrounds today. Just got off the freeway, and was about the 4th car in-line in the left turn lane. Saw something ahead on the cross street I had never seen before.....a Tucker!! I've seen them in museums and car shows, but NEVER driving on the street!. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go after it.

I wonder if it was an actual Tucker? A few years ago, I went to a car show, and there in the middle of everything was a street rodded Tucker 48! I asked about it as street rodding a Tucker would be insane. The guy who owned it ran a company that reproduces Tucker bodies as well as the trim. He sells them as either kits or turn key cars. Apparently, a few that were done as original looking have been used as movie cars. The engine is still in the back, but this time around they use Cadillac Northstar engines and transaxles. The bodies are fiberglass. I'd love to build one as a daily driver. It would be fun to see the looks on the faces of people who know what they are, especially if it's snowing or raining:cry: Or just do it to look like it's just been rolled out of a barn somewhere. When someone asks, just say "Nah, I'm not gonna restore it. I'll just drive it until something breaks. I mean I only paid $500 for it." Or even better, "I'm gonna give it to my kid when he gets his drivers liscense." Bet you could cause a stroke or heart attack doing that....

And then, there was that Jeff Bridges movie about Tucker,a while back. Some of the Tuckers seen in that movie were actually modified Plymouths, according to an LA Times story on the movie...But,let's all put a positive spin on the incident and trust in Krash's abilities to observe and report...Nothing could be finer than seeing a cherished rare classic actually rolling down the road...A few years back,at a Roamin' Relics Car Show in Chatsworth,my family and I saw Jay Leno drive off in one of his Duesenbergs...Seeing a Delahaye at the Petersen Museum was great, but watching a Doozie zoom on down the street was fantabulous!!!:29:

It was a Tucker BODY for sure. It also seemed to have 'period' wheels and tires on it as well. (I've seen pics of the reproductions with the Caddy Northstars, and they all seem to have modern wheels and tires on them. ) Unfortunately, I didn't get close enough to tell more than that.......

Not sure exactly, but if my liver transplant last December is close, somewhere around $625K (and counting)
