I have all ways had a chuckle when we see a turd for sale and seller expects full scrap value, won't take $200 because it's worth $500 at the scrap yard. I can see that if you yourself can tow it in yourself, but no "Ca$h for $crap Car$" guy is gona take there time and fuel, drive to you and hand over full scrap value and then drive it to the scrap yard
    :biglaugh::rofl::biglaugh::rofl:
That's like watching Pawn Stars on TV, fool get's it appraised and then expects to get the appraisal value...... doesn't happen like that.

So yesterday I called around about hauling the old mini van away, got a 1/2 dozen $100 offers (Thats pretty much normal around here), a $125, and a $140 offer. Mr $140 has been here before and knows what to expect:rofl2:.... but that's good for me:yup:. He lives close, and I've bout parts from his scrap yard also. He stops by last night on his way home and we haggle as I'm gona load the van to the max. After some BS'n we agree on $175 because I said..."you know your gona get me back the next time I'm at your yard, rite?":biglaugh: I wanted $200, but oh well and I will be keeping the battery, tires and rims. He also is fine with me posting a ad for parts in the mean time as no $ has exchanged hands yet and in the real world, I dout I'll make any $ between today and Tuesday AM.

I'll be updating my ad with actual pics of the van this morning..........

It's a shame you have to scrap it, Tedy. The Astro was a well-proven, reliable beast. We enjoyed our '93 for quite a few years, until we bought the travel trailer in '98 and needed something a bit more powerful for towing.

Before you scrap your van, have you ever thought about doing this to it?

I could never understand the "dork" craze

I have made $45 selling parts this weekend, $25 for the starter, and $20 for the side rubber moldings, so IMO that's better than nothing. If it's not pouring rain like yesterday I should have it loaded and gone tomorrow AM. And even in death the van had to get me one more time as the rear door refused to open, so out came the grinder with a zip wheel and I cut it open!

A friend had his 76ish Toronado at my place a few years back. It ran, drove, passed emmissions, no rust...........and he had it on CL for 500.00 for weeks. No one called. We took it to the junkyard, pulled the battery, the carb, the 4 tires and wheels, and he got $400.00 for scrap weight. I don't know what they bring now, but that one shocked me.

I'm guessing that my van loaded will bring in around $400, but I have no way to get it there and if I did, I'd still have to jack it up in the scrap pit to take my tires. @ the $175 I'm gona get + the $45 I made, the tires get removed at my house, and I'm keeping the battery ........... Scrap guy wants and needs to make $ also, gas, insurance, time all ads up. Local here, the guy I'm dealing with pays the most as the normal is $100 and that's it for a scrapper to come and take it. Having chatted with him before, he's the first to admit he pays the most and friends etc ask why when....$100,$100,$100 is everybody else. He says, he's all ways busy and at the end of the week has more $ in his pocket than the $100 guys, and the marked by spray paint cars at the scrap yard prove it he claims..... He pays more, he earns more in the long run.

Day is not over, hope I sell at least one more some thing off the van, but being Monday I think the weekend crowd is all that I'll see.

Have to admit though, it's kinda weird just tossing junk in it, not giving a crap what happens to the interior...... a interior that I kept real clean for all these years:rofl2:

I've been there done that also, GN. Way back that is, my beater flipping days..... Buy a beater for $100 that needs tires and a battery, done it many times, buy another beater that has a working battery and good tires for the same, Sell the better beater for $500 and then bring the hulk of the other one in and get $100 or so... after you ripped out everything that was worth keeping, alternators, fuses, a good muffler, what ever could be scavenged for the next beater flip that mite need......

I used to keep all radiators also in a scrap pile, once I had 10 or more bring them in as price per pound on the dirty was pretty darn good also.

*80's GM door handles, power steering pumps were all ways kept as most flip it GM beaters almost all ways needed one, the other, or both.

Scrap value? Hm. In 2009 my Father sent a 1995 Plymouth Voyager to a local junkyard for about $240 I think (Driven in.) In 2011 (October 21) he sent a 1985 Jaguar XJ6 to a junkyard for something between $400 and $500 (Not driven in.) Then in 2012 he sent a 1997 Plymouth Voyager (That burned oil) to the junkyard for about $455 (He drove that one in.)

Come to think of it that's a little bit close for sending cars to junkyards. The Jaguar was sitting since 2006 though and didn't start as it was when sold.

What's going on? While I walked the dog on the day I posted this I saw that my neighbor down the street has a truck done in a Tonka style too! And if it's the same truck as the one I'm thinking of it was re-painted.

Considering it's a minivan and looks decent, I hate seeing it scrapped. But compared to what you were gonna get you did good!
That sure is some funny looking money. I don't think it's any good. We play Monopoly here with that kind.
