For some reason my crappy $80 Hughesnet satellite won't play these videos. From the first quick shot that hole looks like it fills most of the building and is very deep. Maybe a new route to Mammouth Cave.
People were lucky it happened at night.

That is a bummer, big time.

.... I know sink holes happen, have happened but you have to admit........ what are the odds of a round sink hole happening inside a round building yet leaving the building itself intact while engulfing almost all that is inside?

Ask that guy in Florida who's bedroom disappeared from right under his house about a year ago. Oh wait, he disappeared too.

That footage from the helicopter is downright scary looking! That's huge!

I thought the same thing Tedy - that part of the building is round and kind of forms a tee-pee shape; maybe the footing around that part of the building helped keep it in place? I just went and looked through my photo album when I went there in 2001 - weird.

You know, another story broke today that Toyota is recalling 1.9 million Prius hybrids. I say smoosh them into little cubes and use them to fill the hole under the Corvette Museum. That'll bolster the foundation and beautify America's highways all at the same time.

Slightly damaged Corvette needs some TLC! Buyer will be responsible for pulling car out of sinkhole and paying admission to get into the museum. Also, you must sign a waiver just in case you fall in.

That wasn't a Jules Verne adventure to the centre of the Earth? Some Corvettes went navel gazing!:rofl2:

I once hitched a ride, when I was in uniform with a guy driving a new 1968 vette convertible. Top down, the 427 just hummin' away, and hot enough on the floor to fry breakfast! Never piqued my interest after that. Met him 4 months later, when he traded to a Porche convertible. Oh yeah!;)

That's a shame. It really is. Most of those Vettes are irreplaceable, hence their presence in the museum. That drone video shows just how huge that sink hole is. Yikes.

First ZR-1. First Gran Sport. Two cars on loan and owned by GM, and the others were LOANED to the museum by their respective owners. Truly a shame. I feel for the owners and enthusiasts alike. There have been some really stupid and snarky comments about this on several so-called "car enthusiast" forums. People are so damn stupid, I swear.

Patrick, the story I heard, via Jalopnik, was that except for the 2 GM-owned Vettes, all the others were owned by the museum itself.

Also read an update that the Museum expects repairs to be done before the August 20th anniversary celebration. That seems a bit optimistic to me.

Agreed - I wonder if they'll ever reopen in that same spot. I wouldn't want to be the person responsible for saying it's OK to rebuild. I wonder what it took for a survey to be completed when they originally built, and what will it take to get an OK to build now after seeing this? They should move the museum to St. Louis, where the Corvette was originally built.

Supposedly, the 'dome' building is structurally sound - foundation undamaged. Seems odd to me that the sinkhole would form right in the middle of the dome building, leaving the wall area supported. Maybe there was a leaky pipe in the middle somewhere that caused it? It's been up 20 years.......

The 'dome' building is actually a separate structure from the rest of the museum, although connected to the other building.
