Just checked in again after an absence of a couple years.Long story. Still have my 1955 and 1957 Safari wagons but they are hiding away in my shop right now as the temperature is about 10 below zero right now with some snow on the ground. Still have a ton of model cars and a lot of new/old wagons. Will try and post some pics up later on.Looking forward to talking with members. Ray
Welcome back, Ray. Glad to hear the Safaris are both still with you. Can't wait to see the rest of the fleet, both full sized and to scale.
Welcome back. Those are nice station wagons. Turn the heater on and cruise. Oh---Only 47 here and our wagon is in hybernation too. We used to drive it year around down here in Florida . Spring is just around the corner......
Sure looks like it;did you build it? The reason I ask is a friend of mine built one just like that in the mid 1960's from a Nomad that had been damaged in an accident. They cut off the damaged roof and used a rear window from a 1958 Thunderbird.almost a bolt-in;all they did was curl in the B pillars slightly and use part of an old truck tailgate(if I remember correctly) to support the rear window.A little tweaking with the body hammers and some lead and finishing off the tops of the rear quarters and it looked like it came right from the factory. They used it as a shop truck for awhile until he sold it to another guy I knew who ran it up onto a guard rail one night after an extended stay at a local watering hole and crushed the bottoms of the rocker panels. He sold it to someone and the next time I saw it it was on the cover of Rod&Custom magazine at some national car show. It disappeared after that. It was originally buit in Saugus Massachusetts(about 10 mi north of Boston)by a guy named Paul Bourque. The color was almost identical to yours.
Yes, I did design and built my 56 ElCamino. It was originally a 2 door 210 wagon. There is a build post on the HAMB. It is a great cruiser and stone chip collector. I have driven it to Detroit the last few years for the Woodward Dream Cruise. One year their Channel 7 News did a spot with me and the car and last year I visited the GM Heritage where they let me park it in their display area out front. I guess I have this "They should have built one of these" complexes. My current build is a 66 Malibu wagon that I have designed as a 2dr with a little Nomad influence. I started a build thread under Projects in this forum. Several years ago I also built a 37 Chevy Sedan Delivery into a wagon style window delivery and I did a 37 Chevy extended cab pickup. Sorry if I offended anyone by cutting up a wagon. I do get a lot of compliments on how much it looks factory which was the look I was going for so I guess mission accomplished. Hopefully I can do the same with my 66 Malibu 2door conversion.
Thanks for the additional pictures and the clarification.I can see that the B pillar on yours is a bit different from the one I referenced.Yours follows the Nomad side trim more closely than the original Nomad B pillar does. I like your 37 delivery a lot;it reminds me of a couple of later model(early 1950's)Chevrolet Ambulets also known as first response vehicles.
