as far as making stupid decisions i sold my 1988 Buick Electra, thinking i couldnt afford to keep it. I loved that car, and i wont ever sell another one that i like, ill just park it. the guy i sold it to refuses to sell it back to me, and 8 years later, im still offering him what he paid for it.....

Speaking about beaters that are still on the road......I bought a '75 Dodge Tradesman van from my best buddy in 1995. It had 139,000 miles on it. Could have been 239,000, as the odometer had only 5 dogits not counting the tenths. I did a valve job on it and installed a new timing set and drove it for 11 years, racked up another 100,000 miles without any major problems at all. I think I replaced the alternator a couple times, the starter once, the AC compressor and a couple mufflers, but nothing that left me on the side of the road. I paid $1250 for it. I sold it to a fellow in Florida for $1200 a couple years ago, he came up here and drove it back to New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He e-mailed me and said it never missed a beat. He mailed me the other day and said that he sold it to some biker chick that was down for bike week last year. She drove it back to Wisconsin where her boyfriend is doing a complete restoration on it. I would bet a months pay that she made the trip back to WI without any problem from the old Dodge. It was by far the best vehicle that I ever owned. Economical? As far as gas, about 14.5 on a flat road with a tailwind. However, when you factor in reliability, she was a pretty good bargain. The old truck with her 360 engine, 727 tranny and 9.25 rear end with 3:23s served me well. She is missed, but remembered.

Glad to see I am not the only one who regrets letting "one or two" go. Been looking around and what I have seen there are (were) alot of very nice treasures! Thought about another one tonight that I regret.. A 1956 Ford 1 ton Pickup. Body was really decent. She had a 9 foot bed. 292 if I remember correctly?.Help me out here if I am wrong.. I traded a 1955 Plymouth Belvedere 4 door for the Ford. The 55 Plymouth was "50k" car. Body was really decent at the time. Ran pretty good when it ran...After I rebuilt-cleaned the starter. The 6 Volt got old real quick. I blew the poor old tired flathead 230 up one night when I was really POed. Pulled the engine with plans to rebuild but traded it for the 56 instead. Talk about long winded... I kind of regret letting eack one go. I sold the 56 Ford to a guy who was going to make a street rod out of it..?? A 9 foot bed Street rod? I really think she was parted out and the cab used for a restoration. The 55 Plymouth? Sorry to say the guy that I traded for the 56 Ford still has it. It is still without an engine and it continues to rot away in his yard. Nothing has been done with it since I pulled the engine and traded it back in 2000. This guy is unbelievable! He has around 1 acre of land with nothing but old cars. Cadillacs,2 packards, VWs Just about anything you can think of. I might have to make a trip by there to take some pics. You all will not believe the $hit he has in his yard.

My dad was talking about one today he wish he still had. He had a 1968 Chevy Impala SS 427, very rare car, only 1400 some built total. And his was well-optioned with the 4-speed muncie, redline tires, and vinyl top. I beleive the only options he didn't have were power windows and hide-away lites, and maybe AC. The car was ash gold with matching interior. My grandpa bought it in 1969 or 70. What a car!

My first car, '77 Grand Prix..Bought it off of my uncle and had it through high school. Hated to see it go, and haven't been able to find another one around here since.

Nice car.My parents bought a 77 or 76 maybe? brand new I remember it was red with white interior and white vinyl top. The thing I remember most is the rear glass was split right down the middle.
