Had a similar thing happen but it was one tie rod end that let loose going down the highway, was able to limp it home on the back roads.

At least you had one wheel still connected. :D I drove the beast 1,900 miles to Nevada. I just arrived today and the steering stayed together. (y)

The closest I had to you was when I borrowed the neighbors truck and the steering wheel came off but it was in town.

I'd mentioned somewhere, I had that happen with a company Kenworth big rig. Nursed it about 10 miles to the factory.

I remember that happening to one of my mom's friends when I was a kid. She said somehow se was able to get it back on before anything bad happened.

More times than you can imagine.

That is really good exercise while driving. You'll keep your girlish figure longer. :yahoo:

My butt pucker moment was heading into Detroit in 89 with my 1980 New yorker,

left front wheel cane off and i left a long mark on the road when the rotor hit the pavement at 80+mph.

A guy saw it and pointed to where the wheel was.

put it on ,drove back to pa before replacing the square rotor!

    Never shook a bit.

Second one was in my 94 intrepid es "playing " with a viper near the rev limiter

went 2 days later to get rear struts replaced and the rear control arm broke on the way.

at that moment i stopped thinking what would have happened had it broken at 120mph!
