I've noticed that often when someone posts a craigslist ad on the forum a coment will be made that the same wagon was up for sale recently for less... So presumably it has been sold and is being resold by its new owner. But, a lot of times the price difference isn't that big (less than $1000) If someone bought it to flip it, couldn't they make more by posting it on eBay? I see a lot of great wagons posted on craigslist for reasonable prices (except in central Texas). The prices people will pay on eBay seems to be a great deal higher..... Am I missing something?
I'd say at least 60% of the time, it's the same Craig's List seller - just didn't get what he wanted the first time.
I have never looked on Craigslist or eBay. But I'd say KrashKadillak is correct. Many people who advertise in other places run their adds over later until sold. Strangely often they raise the price.
People will try craigslist for a quick local sale. If it doesn't sell, then they put it on ebay but have to raise the price to cover the fees. Ebay has a wider readership.
JPC, also the "flipper" is just looking to unload a wagon quickly my guess would be because they are often a niche vehicle but the seller doesn't realize until they have a car they can't sell quickly for a bunch of cash. So make a little and move on to the next flippable (so not a word) vehicle.
I can tell you why I have done this very thing. Example: Last fall I was trying to sell a 10 year old sedan, I was owner 1 & 3, my mother-in-law was #2. Car was in decent shape, except was going to needed 2 tires in about 10k miles but I figure the new buyer could pick the ones they wanted. Car was priced way below what most car lots would list it for. Had all sorts of nuts contacting me, trying to negiotiate down before ever seeing it, wanting to drive in from 3 states away, having their stepsister's boyfriend looking at it. Getting fed up with this, I pulled the listing for 2 weeks and relisted at a higher price, just to avoid some of the previous flakes that used a lower price setting in their search function. wound up selling the car for more than I thought as well. New owners were so much easier to deal with than the other flakes, and happy to get a nice looking used car, well maintained and with service records. Same thing with car parts and other odds and ends. If you are dealing with strangers, sometimes if you price things too low you get all the nuts and no one serious or willing to buy them, just knuckleheads that jerk you around.
