I was not a fan of the wagon build but I watch the show when I have time and would like to visit GMG and consider myself a fan, even though I am in the minority here.
I think this is the best car auction show out there aside from Wheeler Dealers. Texas Car Wars and Dallas Car Sharks don't appeal to me.
It is an immensly popular show right now - my favorite along with Graveyard Cars. The Ugly Kid company got more than $42,000 in television advertising and will continue to benefit as reruns of that episode are shown. I don't like some of the cars that Richard chooses to build but hey it's his money and show. How can you not like a show where the main character gets talked into snorting tequila?
I met Aaron 3 or 4 years ago when the Gas Monkey Garage was over on Ables here in Dallas. He was a very nice, soft-spoken guy that showed me all around the shop. He didn't have that crazy beard back then. I just stopped by to see the place, because there was always a few fun old hot rods they were working on. I never dreamed they would have a show, but every time I watch it, I kind of enjoy it. They make no bones about being goofball idiots, but they are pretty harmless. At least I've never seen them pull what that Boyd Cottington show did, when, for a silly in-shop competition, they bought a beautiful fully restored Model T and chopped it up to make the ugliest abomination of a hot rod you could imagine. A total travesty, and totally against what any good hot rodder is about. David
Let's all agree to disagree !! We all have different taste in build styles . Stock , modified , custom,,,what ever,,,,it's an opinion ! We all have one ,, and not the same, thank God !!! That would be pretty boaring. I'd hate to see all stock , restored cars running around ,, But that's just me ...... Or is it ??????
Graveyard Cars is done right here in Springfield, Oregon. Passed by their shop just this morning as a matter of fact. Big car hauler trailer parked out front with glass sides showing off a Dodge Charger Daytona, red with a big, white-striped wing. I haven't seen all their shows, but from what I have seen, they've got the car end of it down real good, they just need to work on their TV realities. Shows seemed forced and over-scripted.
They probably got so much bad mail about it that that cranky foreman, (the name is somewhere at the back of my head) they had who eventually left to go work for that other prick deadline-obsessed boss where the Swede ended up, refused to butcher that near-mint '61 Chevy, despite the customer wanting it to happen
I believe that Daytona belongs to a guy about 50 miles from me down near Gowanda NY. I saw a guy at a car show this summer who had a Graveyard Cars shop shirt on. We got to talking and it was his Daytona that we saw glimpses of last season in an unrestored state. I commented that someone would need deep pockets for a restoration by them. He indicated that he is paying for some of the resto but not all. He has been out there three times and has assisted some on the car. Said the owner, whose name escapes me, is a nice guy and as much a character as he seems. He also said that the show is sold to the cable network and the owner retains the series and actually has it filmed by a camera and production crew he hires. As the series has gone on, it is becoming more professionally done.
Good to know. Went I first arrived in Oregon, I went in and talked to him, looking for a damage appraisal job. Seemed friendly enough.
Yeah. He went and got a job at that customs shop where they were doing Hummers and luxury cars for those rapper hip hoppers. I think they're called West Coast Customs. It seems, only those 2 foremen and that upholsterer stuck it out there
I watched a episode the other night that is probably a rerun where the ate up a cam breaking in the motor, acted like they did not know special oil was needed for a flat tappet cam so I am done watching the show.
A friend was over today. Said those guys were doing some filming at Daytona Turkey Run. He was maybe 30' from them and said they seemed to know a little about cars.
Give the GMG boyz a little credit on that episode ... it got me jonesing for a clam-shell, and got you at least one new member on this Forum ... ...! Besides, don't y'All know ... they do things different in Texas and don't give a royal flyin' rip about how anybody else does 'em! Just sayin', ya know ... CHEERS! Grant
