Hey there in Wagonland! I am Carl, and I have not posted on this site in quite some time. Had some unpleasant health issues crop up that took center stage for awhile (4 rounds of liver cancer) But they are gone now, thanks to getting a shiny new liver as a Christmas Gift. Still waiting to go back to work...

I currently own a '57 DeSoto Firesweep Shopper (Virgil) that I would like to start working on this spring. My daily driver is an '86 Eagle Wagon (Erma), that I love dearly. I love wagons in general, Mopar and AMC in particular. But really anything with a long roof will turn my head. I have a question for you folks regarding the GM Clamshell wagons. I have always wanted one of these, and have recently found an Oldsmobile clamshell. I'd say it's a '74 or '75, but am not sure. It has the big crash bumpers, and round headlights. I was wondering if there are any common problems to look out for. I'm also wanting to know how difficult it is to fix the clamshell tailgate/window system, assuming it isn't working. And though it really doesn't matter that much, and I'm not expecting miracles either, what kind of gas mileage do these tubs get? I had a big block powered Plymouth wagon ('71) that could do 18-19 if you were nice to it on the highway. Anyway, it's good to be back on the forums and reading what's going on. Have the Best Day everyone!!

The hell with the cars I am just glad you are ok. Damn that's what matters most. Get yourself healthy and then enjoy the cars.

Thanks everyone for the support. Things are going very well so far. I was actually out of the hospital in only six days, and was allowed to return home to New Mexico in only four weeks, usually, you have to stay in the area for 8-12 weeks. One of the things that drove me batty when I was in California was the thought of my Eagle sitting up on jacks in the snow,
with the front halfshaft waiting to be installed. That's what I was working on when the call came, putting in a new left side halfshaft. I had gone into the house to start a fire so it would be warm when I went in. It was dark, and had just begun to snow, and I was hell bent to get it done that night. I went into the house, and as I was starting the fire, the phone rang. It was The Call.... It was 9pm and I had exactly 6 hours to be in San Francisco.

Two days after I got home, I finished the job. It felt real good. Now on to the DeSoto when the weather warms up. I want to have that car running and driving by the end of the summer.

So a few weeks after a new liver you were on your back working on your car. I guess most of us shouldn't have any excuses to finish up some projects.

With all those Gurus in Lotusland, you could've learned telekinesis and fixed the car from there. Good to have you back Carl. You raised the bar of restoring anything. (y) ;)
