    Good day to you all.

On the news this morning and in the papers we are being told to prepare for 70mph+ winds to hit Britain and 30mm of rain on Monday.

This is probably nothing compared to what many have suffered in recent past and beyond, but this is quite serious as this sort of thing is very uncommon here.

Also it's to be expected of much building and automobile damage.

The worst since 1987 when I was 5 and evacuated from my early school.

Worried about what spot would be best to park the Wagon, the Mustang and the truck out of harms way I came across this pic from the 1987 hurricane that hit Britain in 1987. - To my horror of horror's there's a poor Ford Thunderbird on an English suburb under a tree!

I hope this isn't some sort of sign!

    Best wishes to you all.

From past experience, I can tell you to park them away from trees. Limbs and branches will hit your cars, and maybe a whole tree.
Of course a good garage is best, but maybe if you can find a bank that is closed (they're everywhere here) you could park under their drive through canopy.
    Good luck!:tiphat:

Good luck from another in hurricane land. A few friends in the UK have mentioned a lot of heavy rains already the past few weeks. Stay away from trees. The tops may be broken off and heavy rains weaken the root system causing them to fall. Wherever you park is only a guess.

    Cheers boys.

Thing is all the trees still have pretty much all their leaves on still. As we haven't yet had a frost.

Will park away from the trees defo! we all like wood, just not when it rips straight through the centre of your car!

My friend in Heper-whatever UK said they are expecting 80 MPH and maybe four days of storms. Stay safe.

The safest place to park your cars during a BAD storm is the 3rd floor of a multi-story parking garage. It protects them from trees, blowing objects, and more importantly from flash flooding.

I learned that while my son was attending Tulane in New Orleans. Numerous times students' cars were submerged in neck deep water or had live oak limbs crush them during the frequent hurricanes down there.

The downside is if it's a really valuble car, it will get stripped when the raping and pillaging starts in the aftermath of the storm. He had his trunk locked slammed and they stole his toolbox.

Thankyou for that, very interesting thought. Unfortunatley the multi-story car park here in Yeovil is locked to stop the boy-racers hot-rodding around and causing mayhem. Also the storm is meant to hit here at 2-3am Monday, so they will definatley be locked.

Thanks for the thought though. Kind.

Thankyou very much. I will try indeed. Have been advised to buy candles!

Climbing up onto the barn roofs tomorrow to try and ensure the corrugated roof won't fly off.

That's it. My friends are big mean wild bikers. But the upcoming storm is making them cry. They've already had too much rain.
I've never been out of the USA. Our kids have but we haven't seen everything here yet.

If you have no choice but to be near trees, the ones to pick are oak trees. They have a central tap root that is as long as the main trunk, so they tend not to blow over. I've seen them survive 120 km/h winds, not to mention 125 mm of rain in 24 hours, and with no damage at all.

The main thing is to keep well away from flood planes and to seek the highest ground you can for parking the cars. Just remember that floods are like lightning. Both strike the same spot over and over again until it is destroyed. Good luck, stay safe and please do post pictures, preferably before and after. Prayers are with you.

Advice is good only if it is valid. While it may be true about oaks where Mike lives, that doesn't mean it's true where others live. Oaks are subject to disease and a large portion of them are hollow inside, which is why squirrels build their dens in them. They have large limbs which are prone to breakage by their sheer weight and moreso when they are bearing a large crop of mast. In my area, there are very few big trees because the topsoil is only a couple of feet deep and the trees have no taproots.

There are more cars and homes damaged by oaks during a storm than any other tree. Kindly disregard his advice.

Having 2 large healthy Oaks in my yard I have to agree with the above..... DO NOT park your car under a oak tree if you are expecting a wind storm. Even with regular trimming branches come down, I move my cars as far away from under the oaks when we are expecting big winds.
