Hello to you all. Swapped the sparkly spoked wheel trims today in place for some more sensible, plastic and easier-to-clean ones. Autumn (or as some of you may refer to as 'Fall') is well and truly here now and the lane to the farm is getting very slushy and muddy and it just makes sense. Chevrolet hubcaps of course, but from a slightly earlier model, plucked these from a wrecked Chevrolet Caprice Wagon I found here in the UK back in the summer. Pic 2 is part of the offending lane! I think she likes them, - I do! Regards to you all. Wagonqueen.
I had a friend with a '77 or so baby blue Impala wagon, it had those on one side. I asked her what happened to the others, someone nicked them in a parking lot. They are some of the prettiest designs Chevrolet came up with. And they're plastic? Good save! I want some disc wheel covers for a different look. I had two other cars, I bought standard wheel covers for them, they made a nice change from the spokes.
Daughter in law's family is in Blackpoole and a friend lives in Hilperton, United Kingdom. They all say it's been raining hard and often. Might need a boat.
Ah yes, well these are Plastic with a chrome outer rim. As sad as I am, I actually have a "dream set" of hubcaps I wish to purchase when I find an immaculate set! Love these, - saw them on an Oldsmobile 'B' body (like yours) in a Movie when I was a lad and thought these are the nicest wheel trims ever on these style Wagons. How sad am I? - Very!
Yes it has been raining and very blustery! Hilperton?! - Is that Hilperton as in Hilperton Trowbridge Wiltshire?! If so, my parents live less than a mile away from there, and Me and Dorothy drive through there regularly. Find out Cat!
Ditto fannie's comment! Great looking wagon and beautiful picture of the "offending lane". Thanks for sharing.
That's interesting. The wheel covers you have on now are the same vintage as your 'dream' wheel covers. The difference is that the ones you have now were the 'available at extra cost' optional ones, and the 'dream' ones are the standard equipment. The ones you have now are the more rare and difficult to find, by the way. I don't blame you at all for taking the wire wheel covers off. A muddy lane like that would make them a real bugger to keep clean. Just as bad as the slush and salt we get here in winter. Speaking of, we got our first snow tonight. GRRRRRR
I never knew that the ones I prefer were standard 'L' model equipment. Interesting what you say about the one's I have currently on her are more luxury. Because they remind me of a smaller set Ford used to do for the first generation Ford Mondeo Ghia that we get here.
Thankyou for the comment, We are really lucky where we live. - Although its a shame the Lane gets so 'swampy' as the Main road at the top of the hill is relatively dry, but by the time you reach it in whatever your driving, it looks as though you've just come from the off-roading assault course! - Or in my case emerging with the wagon looking similar to the one on "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"
I like your dream covers, those and the first downsized Caprice wheel covers are the other really great Chevy designs of the '70s/'80s era. Even though all the full sized wagons of GM '77 to '90 have the same bodies, of course they have enough distinctive trim on each to set off the look of the standard or accessory upgrades. If one wants to make any of the box wagons look like crap, put on a set of those plastic auto parts store wheel covers.
I've always preferred the optional wheel covers you have on there now as opposed to the standard ones you showed pictures of. These always seemed to me to be considerably more upscale and indicative of a loaded wagon. Your Caprice Estate is gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous.
Well, if I'm honest, they are rather growing on me! Was peering out the window earlier at her and she does look sweet with them. Without sounding a total Wagon 'slut' (Because I love pretty much any wagon) but I think your Mercury is rather fetching too. - Love the Bordeaux red against the wood. - Best colour combination, and I had a '91 Country Squire, and as I'm sure you know are not too dissimilar from your Mercury.
Thanks WQ. I'm the 2nd owner; I bought it in '99, I believe it was, when it had only 49000 miles on it. It's got 91000 on it now. It's not perfect, but like they say, it's only original once.
