Try a bigger hammer! Spray a WD40 type lube on the door post push buttons. If that is not the problem there could be a dead ground at one of the push buttons or at the light.
Another thing to play with is your head lamp switch as that also controls interior lites., I had a beater years back that even though the dome/interior lite part was in the closed/off position you had to wiggle/find the exact spot to keep the dome lite off.
wd40 didnt work.there a button on inside door that holes button on.should i loosen that and see what i can do?Ground deed mean ground wire loose?Thanks Gary
Yea but when he takes his girfriend to the drive in movie he won't be able to find the popcorn! About that headlight switch, maybe it's turned to the dome lite position.
There are four of those plunger switches controlling the dome light (one at each door), and the aforementioned headlight switch. The switches at the doors should be normally closed (door open, plunger out). For the light to turn off all four need to be open (door closed, plunger depressed). If you are lucky there are electrical connectors close to each switch and you can unplug each one until the light goes out. If you are unlucky the leads from the switch travel for a long time before going into a larger harness. I'd probably start with the driver's door switch since that one gets the most use. Or you can do what OldFox said and just take the bulb out of the dome light.
You can also pull on the switch to extend it a bit, and then close the door. This is how the switch is adjusted.
two wires left switch.only one wire right switch.Is this the promble?Idisconnected wire right side then closed both front doors light still didnt go out;;;
forget about the swtch its hard to get damage its can live fo ages. look for the door jamb switch. i think your problem from there. i have the same prob. in my caprice. i couldnt find it here in this area so i remove all light. i think u r in america its easy to find this stuff there. look under the door hinge for some thing look like this... good luck.
Your right switch should also have two wires. One has probably fallen off and is grounding against the body somewhere......this completes the circuit and keeps the light on. Fish around for the other wire and reconnect it.
