The rear window is working fine now...I just have to ensure that the doorgate is completely closed (requires a firm push) and locked.

I do have the same problem as someone MercWoody mentioned above...it swings out but doesn't fold down flat.

We live in LA, where left-hand turns are always dangerous. Just a few minutes ago, I was stopped at the light, then saw a break in the traffic and went for it. It's always impressive when 3000 pounds at rest suddenly lifts up and moves like a bat out of hell, presenting that long woody side to oncoming traffic before disappearing down the side street.

Let's see a PT Cruiser with woody panels match that.

By the way, my daughter gets her license at the end of this month. My days of driving the wagon will soon be over (although I will still be responsible for maintenance, cleaning, etc.). I'll be forced back into my car -- a 1989 BMW 325i convertible -- which provides its own brand of joy.

Why is it I sense a second Colony Park landing in your driveway in the not so distant future? A father/daughter pair of wagons sounds about right!

Ok.....try this if you want to get your tailgate to swing down again.....

Step 1 - remove the plastic panel on the inside of the tailgate. To do this, there is one screw that holds on the chrome handle. The plastic panel also has a screw in each end (left and right) near the top edge. Then simply pry the bottom and lift gently.

Lower the rear window if you haven't already done so.

Step 2 - look down inside the tailgate at the center (near where that chrome handle was. you will see some of the door linkage. near the top you will see a long metal rod with a threaded end on it. There will be a nut threaded onto that piece. The aforementioned nut has a nipple sticking out of one side that connects into another piece as I recall. This piece is where you make your adjustment.

Remove the nipple from the piece it snaps into. Next, screw the nut with the nipple on it down tighter on the threads. Reconnect the nipple and test out the door.

You can reinstall the handle to try it out without having to put the plastic piece back on. If it doesn't work, try tightening down the nut even further on the threaded rod.

It would also be a great idea to lube up all of the hinges and moving parts on both sides of the tailgate.

The job shouldn't take but about 20 minutes at most. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Mike

Hey, Parks, I own a '91 Colony Park, which I have sold and will be replacing with a 1986 Country Squire. I also have owned three BMW 325iC ragtops - an '89 and two '90s. Great cars!
