I just bought a used 9in rear axle its from a 1964 ford falcon van.Im pricing the bearings and seals. its a bit high,Sometimes i have been able to buy 'Kits' that contain everything i need to do the bearings, seals, bushings or shims. The NAPA store here says 'no such thing' as did other parts stores..i find that hard to believe considering so many people still use the 9in rear axle..im putting this rear axle under my 1964 Falcon wagon

Yeah its a 9in 28 spline, I have examples of both rear axles that i use.I prefer to use the 8in in this wagon but the ones i have are for other projects.I did find what i need for a bearing/seal kit at summit.less than $90 delivered to my home.I did find a 'master kit' by motive gear (the same exact brand i just ordered) at one of the parts stores here..but they want $135 then also add a shipping charge.

yeah it thought it was a bit much to have a 9in in a 64 E100 but thats what i took it out of and the guy i got it from says that axle has never been changed since when his parents bought it new

I found the axle code tag and it reads WCR-S1 then directly below it has 3.00 7GD 787...the WCR-S1 according to a Ford book is for the 63-67 Econoline van..BUUTT then i read another page and it says..the S1 means it an 8 3/4..rear axle huh???..also denoting that its for the 63-67 econoline. It dont really matter.its the only rear axle i have that needs maybe $200 spent on it so i can use it

I also was a little sceptical about early Econolines having a 9" rearend in them. I owned a '64 Econoline non-window van delivery van with an 8" rear and 4.00 gears. They were grossly underpowered to warrant a 9".
The largest 6 that was in them was the 240 cu.in.. and that was late in the series. '67 if I'm not mistaken.

I dont know the specifics of many vehicles,But do know that what a book says and whats in front me..many times has been contradictory. My 65 falcon convertible is one example..It came new with just a 289 and an autolite 450cfm 4bbl carburetor,It was just a base 289 V8..but it also came with a 4spd and a 9in rear axle and 3.73 rear gears. The man i bought the car from bought it new and the spec sheet shows the car leaving the factory with that combination So it wasnt a dealer install and it wasnt a back-yard build. To my knowledge the falcn convertibles did not have those available as options and they certainly were not standard items.Anyway im just glad to have the rear axle,I didnt pay very much at all.I pulled it apart today and i think i could get away with just putting new seals, wheel cylinders and a brake hardware kit in it and 'Go' but im not that cheap hahaa!

I agree, I bout a 68 cougar from the original owners, car was a rusted out parts heap and that's it. when it was just about ready for the scrapper a friend asked if I checked the rear end, he dragged out my floor jack and WTF, it had a 9" 28 spline posi!:2_thumbs_up_-_anima some time later I ran into the previous owner who was a bit of a car nut himself but never worked on his cars, he had no idea and was a bit  himself as he said.... I bout it new for the wife and rarely drove it, she just drove it until the rust took over.
