I just purchased a 1962 chevy belair wagon, and I love it. One thing is that the sun visors keep falling down in your face. There are no hooks to keep it up. How to a tighten them up?

Darn I remember having that problem with cars and fixing it.
Now I can't remember how I did it. Some have a screw that can be tightened down. Might also be able to remove them and add a small shim.
If that's the only problem you will have you ARE LUCKY.

I am going to guess that the steel rod which serves as the "hinge" is worn beyond what the built in visor clamp will grasp. I know. I have one too!

Remove the visor from the car. Study the motion and you will figure out exactly what foreign object you can jam in there that will hold it.

On many of these, the tension is supplied by a spring on the mechanism, at least on Fords. If that spring has become weak, the visors will fall. Shimming the spring, or finding a way to replace it to restore the tension will fix the problem nicely.

Since my wagon has no headliner to speak of... I used two wooden clothespins attached to one of the headliner bows to hold up the visors so they don't flop down.

All visors pivot on a steel rod. If that rod had a slight bend in it the visor that hangs on that rod and pivots over it... would have additional friction.
It's probably low grade steel and can be curved with bare hands.
Doesn't work... bend it back the other way.

#1--I was also thinking the bending trick might work. Just take the visor off the rod and gently bend the very end that goes in the visor. Maybe even smash it slightly to flatten a bit.
#2--Or remove your headliner and do what Jairus did.:rofl2:
#3--Third choice move to Florida or Oregon where it rains and you don't need a sun visor. ;)

Thanks so much guys!! This is my first wagon, an I love it. We on my profile there is a picture of it. And I am keeping the outside like it is except I'm putting an old style logo I made on the side of it. The logo will say M&M surf shop. Thanks so much guys!

I dont know the techical name of the part but the chrome part that slides in the visor and bolts it to the body will sometimes be the cause of them not staying up,the shaft the slides in the visor will come loose with wear and ust wont stay up. It will have to be removed from the visor to see what is wrong.

I've used these before on my '64 Impala SS Convertible. Keeping visors up on a convertible is a task. These worked a little; I ended up putting a piece of vacuum hose over the ends and that snugged them up when they slid into the retainer on the rear view mirror post.
