Hello people, I need a new radiator for the wagon, does anyone have tips or info about this (where to get them, what`s the best type)? Thanks, EJ
This company makes new ones for the Aftermarket: http://www.spectrapremium.com/spectra.html They sell through many specialty dealers like: http://www.quantaproducts.com/home.asp
I've seen an awful lot of them w/plastic tanks... I suppose they might work, but plastic makes me queasy. I got mine for my '72 from a local supplier. I would also make sure it is a 3-4 row unit.
What is wrong with the old one? Re-building isn't an option? New cores will costs you about 250-300 Euros (and that is almost the same for a new one from the USA incl shipping)
You have to hit the Catalog menu at the top to see the range that they make, because they do make copper and aluminum rads as well. But I agree, the bigger the core, the better.
I thought about rebuilding, but i was curious if it would`nt be cheaper to have one shipped from USA. After all, prices for rebuilding are high... Everyone thanks for the info!
I'd buy new. Mine had to go in for a rebuild back in 2001. The guy told me that because it ran in Mexico's hot weather for so long, that the brass and copper were really fragile and to expect to replace it. I don't drive it very much but I know the day is coming. And I'll buy a new three-core for it.
It cost me over $400 to re-core the rad in my '64 Coupe deVille last summer. Copper prices have skyrocketed (lots of construction site thefts of wire/pipe here in the US to prove it). If the tanks are good, it might be worth checking into. Is there someone 'local' you can use, or would you have to ship it just to recore?
Someone else mentioned looking up the Cross Reference in a Hollinger book. If you could find a newer model with the same rad, you might score it for a lot less. Just a thought.
