I stumbled upon a '71 Country Squire that I want today!!

We went to one of the local cruise-ins that we normally go to on Saturday evening... on the way back up the street, my mom was tired (she went with me) so we went back up the alley behind the buildings downtown and as we get out in the open again toward the other end of the street, I look over and spot this 1971 Country Squire!!! I go running over naturally and start snapping photos. The wood-grain is very tired obviously, but the car is very solid and the interior is in excellent shape (other than the front seat needing attention)!! It also appears to have the Brougham interior option, as well as dual-facing rear seats, A/C, power seat and power locks!! I have no idea who owns the car, but it is across from the old closed down Ford dealership where that other blue '71 LTD sedan I mentioned a couple of years ago is still setting and ruining!!

I have no room or money, but I want this wagon!!! I left a note on the window asking the seller to call me if they want to sell. If I have to, I will borrow money on my new car to get it!!!

The poor wood-grain condition makes the car look terrible. It needs a good cleaning, new wood-grain and a set of deluxe wheel covers. The rear tires also appear to be too big for the car...

Photos to follow in the post below...

Here is the alley way we were going down... we never go back this way to the car, but I am glad we did, or I would have never spotted this wagon!!

and on down and around the corner... :) I am not familiar with the grill on these... is this one a 1971 or 1972? The rear quarter panel emblems were inside the car.

dual-facing rear seats... (also has antique plates, so someone knew it was a classic...

Grill identifies it as a '71.........
Center grill section on the '72 has more horizontal elements rather than the cross-hatch of the '71.

Good luck with the owner....... don't go crazy with your offer.

Thanks Krash for the year - I really wasn't sure. Ironically, across the street from this one, the LTD sedan is also a 1971. I did confirm that before. Its a shame, as the car is going downhill fast. I bet the same owner owns them both!

I will probably never hear back about it... they probably will either want a fortune, or they simply won't sell it and only want it for the engine or a derby or something. :(

Btw, check out my cruise-in thread... I just posted a pic of a Bonneville Brougham sedan you may like. It was a beauty!!

You'll also notice the 1972 models had a bumper going straight across, no dip in the middle (still comes to a point though)

Yes, thanks! I used to be able to tell the difference between a '71-72, but kinda lost track. I can tell the difference between ALL other big Fords from 1949 up through the current models, but I would always end up forgetting how to tell the difference between a 71-72. lol.

Yeah, me too. Used to be able to pick out the 'model years' on all the cars with very minor year-to-year differences, like the '71/'72 big Fords. Seems it got harder and harder each year to keep track.

Yeah, I can too on certain ones, especially the Chevrolets from the 50s up through the current models, as well as other GM cars, especially from the 50s-80s. I can also tell those Fords I mentioned and some of the Mopars from certain years. The newest cars, well I have a little trouble pinpointing the exact year, unless the first year for a redesign. lol.

    hey, hey, hey

Appears to have all it's woodie trim. The woodie paneling could be replaced with a well done paint job. Medium brown with dark brown grain and the black stripes. There's also this stuff I saw on a home improvement show, for painting the metal front doors of houses. It's a clear coat with like chocolate swirl in it. you paint it on the door, then smear it with the sponge that comes in the kit, and that makes the grain lines.

LOL! Actually that was exactly the same thing I told my mom as we were walking down it. We have looked down those alleys at night, but never went down them. She wanted to take a short cut back to our car on the next street over as she was not feeling well and it was really hot. It is probably not too bad, it is not a real high crime town and only about 15,000 people. I think it looks worse than it is, but who knows these days? lol. Not to far at either end it is bright and peaceful looking with a war memorial at the end we were walking from and some old restaurants the direction we were heading, as well as an old Ford dealer that apparently closed in the 80s.

I like the '71 Ford wagons, and that dark green looks especially nice with the woodgrain. Good luck in your quest!
