The Old 96 roadmaster has developed a crank sensor issue. The Computer is throwing me out a PO335 and 336 engine codes. the one is a "crankshaft positiong sensor curcuit malfuction" and the other is "cranksaft sensor range/perf". I have at this point replaced the crank sensor, plug to the sensor and checked the wires in about 2 ft from the sensor (ones that run under the oil pan lip). I need to know where these go into the computer (wire postion) so I can check the entire wire. The car starts and runs fine. the first start up no light and as long as the car is running no light. The second start the light will come on within 5 seconds after she fires up. Again the car runs fine. I am suspecting a connector because she doesn't like to get wet. Will stall and not restart in the rain and when running it through the car wash. Both issues came up at the same time. So please help if you can. the car will be needed at the end of the week to do a 10 hr round trip and I really need to get the fixed! Thanks in advance for any suggestions Dan
Sounds like a possibility but I'm no LT1 guy. You'll get a lot more experienced help on the Impala SS or Longroof forums. It's an LT1 so you won't be mocked and chastized on the Longroof site by their resident bully/ bad-boy/self-righteous egomaniac for having a 91-93 LO3 or LO5 equipped wagon. I won't set foot on that site again for as long as I live, or until he ceases to.
Found the problem to late ! The issue I was having with the roadmaster came to an ugly end this morning. My son was getting the car ready (thought we had it fixed) to take on a five hr drive to a concert. He went to start it and BANG and then the car started. Then all he could hear was metal rattling around in the Tourqe converter cover. He left the car runn and pulled into the shop and shut it off. Then he called me at work. I came home and this is what i found. The nose of the starter had broken off. After further inspection we found that the distributer seal had failed casing the the optics to get covered in oil.(this is what threw the engine code) This caused a misfire when the car started made the engine "kick back" breaking the starter. I now have to remove and replace the distributer (we all know what fun that is on an LTI)! This has been the 4th one I have done on this car in the last 18 months. these units are new with a lifetime warranty but the warranty don't mean much when the entire font of the engine has to come apart everytime one fails. not to metion a new starter has to be done as well (those are not cheap)
Such a shame,. I thought everyone knows it,s all in good fun,. guess not,.. but then again,. it,s only the odd L03/L05 guy that is sensitive and insecure, performance anxiety i think its called,..
Started working on the old roadmaster again. Trying to do some research into upgrading the water pump (to AC delco) and the distributer (AC Delco) for a reasonable price. I don't want to keep repeating this mad cycle of water pump leaks damages distributer in turn misfires and breaks starter thing every 4-6 months! Keep you all posted. take care Dan
