Nice work, Pat. I've got a beat-up one of those, with the stake sides, bought when the kidlettes were like 1 and 2 1/2. They're 23 and 25 now. I think I'll be doing a rebuild project on it once a grandkid is in the near future (not yet). Big wheels are a definite part of that plan.
I have the same wheels and tires on my wagon. Are you going to be installing that B-body quarter glass on each side of it? I've never seen a kid wagon with vent windows.
I've got my kids' old wagon, too, with similar painted wheels. I plan on blasting it soon and painting it hammertone copper and red. Should make for a really cool contrast!
I was expecting the "other" type of wagon! But still cool! Was that always a wood-sided wagon? I started looking at the sides and it looked like a bunk-bed ladder that had been repurposed. I've got a Radio Flyer wagon that was bought new in 1957 in my shed, waiting for inspiration. I want to customize it to match my "other" wagon.
this wagon is from the late 60's early 70's, and is very similar to the one that I had as a child in the late 60's. the forward slant to the corner angles are more of a nod to the cars of the 60's, originally it would have been covered in some high gloss varnish and some red or white script down it's flanks I picked it up at a swap meet many moons ago, and used it to haul my swap meet finds out to the wagon in the parking lot, it also spent a lot of it's time with my dad who used it weekly to haul his garbage cans out to the curb. I'm going to pimp it out some and return it to swap meet part hauling duty
I remember when my dad took me to the hardware store to get my wagon, he wanted me to had the metal tub radio flyers, but I wanted a wooden one since the woods ones were a bit quieter and did not rattle your bones as much as the all metal ones. they were also a bit lighter and therefore faster.......
