Hello all, Greetings from West Michigan. Over the 4th of July weekend I woke up our '85 Pontiac Parisienne Safari Wagon from an 11 year hibernation. It might not be an Antarctic Blue Super Sportswagon with a C.B. and optional Rally Fun Pack but it's still a pretty cool Family Truckster! That's a decades worth of dust in the first picture. I also put in a pic of my daily driver-'13 VW TDI SportWagen.
I have fond memories of totally beating on my parents Parisienne. My friends and I did a lot of illegal stuff in that ride. Bottle rockets and a power tailgate are 2 things that a teenage boy should not have access to. And don't even start to remind me about the bowling ball incident.
Wow...that Pontiac is beautiful. Can't imagine being able to keep my hands off that for 11 years unless it was on the opposite coast.
Thanks for the compliments and warm welcome. A short history on the car: My dad bought it from the original owner back in 1987 to replace our 1976 Matador wagon. My mom baked (and still bakes) wedding cakes and needed a car with air conditioning to deliver a cake from New Era, Michigan to Highland, Indiana for my sisters wedding. I have attached a picture of the car full of cakes. I also found a couple of old slides of our AMC wagon. My dad died in 2002 and my mom only drove the car a few times after that. Although it was her car, she didn't care to drive it because it was so big. She parked it in her garage where it has been sitting until now. Hey Luke, you made me laugh! I was in college when my dad got the Pontiac so I never got the chance to beat on it. The Matador was another story. I remember having to go back and look for the hubcaps after driving the car with my friends. Those things would fly off if you cornered too fast...just like in the movies.
oh baby baby Great looking wagon. Great that it got to sit in the garage and not the yard, as happens too often.
Welcome! Great story about your Pontiac! And yes, it's very lucky that it had a garage to stay in during its prolonged hibernation!
Thanks again everyone, I'm not sure if this is the place to ask but what do you know about the factory superlift shocks? I know the car had them originally-see the label on the door and air fitting at the rear license plate. **check out the mirror finish on the chrome!** The air lines are still intact also. I found a receipt in the glove box from 1989 when my dad had the shocks replaced with conventional Gabriel shocks. Please direct me it this should be on a different thread. I also have some cool old slides of my family's previous wagons-where should I post those?
Very unfortunate about that bumper being so shiny "Hat" . Its supposed to be all rusty and crusty and bent by now Nice wagon, neat story, glad you found the forums. Can't help you with regard to the shock question but there are far more knowledgeable folks here who can, and will, and along the way there will be a fair amount of kidding and ribbing and sidetracking of your thread(s). I am a fan of Pontiac wagons. Big time fan actually!!!! Yours sure is a beauty and it is nice that you have history with it. What is your plan for it?
