It seems that most of us name our cars, which I think is totally normal if not required. But how many of you have decided to put a little something on your plates as well? The countdown continues (7 days and counting) until I finally own my wagon, but I already have a top 5 for the plates:
FRKNWGN (as in Hell yeah, it's a freaking wagon!)
CTSBT20 (Seats About 20 - anyone ever heard the 80's song "Love Shack"?)
PLUSSIZ (Hey, I'm a confident woman, and have no issue with a plus size car)
LONGONE (Can be read as Long One or Long Gone)
MINZBGR (Mine's bigger... as long as we're measuring....)

I'm sure we'll know which is the right one when I finally meet my baby.
    So whatcha got LNGRIDRS? :beerchug:

Wait until you get to know the old girl. She may surprise you. By the way, all of my cars have names. Bertha was my last one (As in BIG BERTHA). Nora was before her. And so it goes. Who knows what the next one will be named? Have to see what the car tells me.

If it weren't for the fact that my car has collector plates (which means I never need to buy tabs again) I would do a vanity plate. I actually started the process once. I always thought "Fury-us" (as in Furrious) would be a good one.

Don't get too complicated. Some of these won't read the way you think they will:

What popped into my mind when I saw this was "Frankenwagon," not Freaking Wagon.

"CTSBT20" means "seats about 20?" I don't think so. I don't know how I would interpret it, if I can interpret it at all, but it certainly wouldn't have been that. If nothing else, the word "seats" starts with an s, not a c. If anything, it says to me "costs about 20," and then the question would be 20 what?

I read this as minz burger.

It seems this thread has gone a little awry.

MikeT - I agree, and all of my cars have had names, with the exception of my minivan.

Rev - you have a very valid point! It is now being considered. :)

Orthmann - FuryUs is fantastic!

Hanswurst - I am not one for censorship, but I believe that is mildly inappropriate. :naughty:

Jaunty, I realize that my choices may not be for everyone; they might be a bit generational. "Seats about 20" is a famous line from the song 'Love Shack,' which was huge in the 80s-90s. (Also appropriate because the car is an '87). Freakin' Wagon is just fun, and again reminds one of a recent song by Rhianna ("Cheers to the freakin' weekend"). Plus size and mine's bigger are just fun, and fairly self-explanatory. Vanity plates are personal plates, and thus change according to each person. I'm sorry you don't seem to like them, but personally, I think they rock. :yahoo:

PassatMama - I hadn't actually considered it quite like THAT :162: but it actually did pass the test along with all the others. It's not in the top three, but I hope that if someone else does choose to put it on a plate, it would be taken in the context of vehicle humor.

Go back and read my post again.

I never said I didn't like them, and you don't need to explain about the "seats about 20" or anything else. It doesn't matter what the reference is.

What I said is that people aren't necessarily going to translate your vanity plate shorthand into what you meant it to say. Like I said, YOU may think that FRKNWGN will automatically cause people to see "Freaking Wagon." But they won't necessarily. I, for instance, saw it as Franken Wagon, I would make an association with Frankenstein, and I would be wondering what it is you were trying to say as it sounds like you're insulting your own car. If you're trying to say Freaking Wagon, how about FRKGWGN? I think that would have a better chance of getting the point across.

The point is, you get too cute with vanity plates, and you lose people. Keep it simple.

Remember, too, that, in most states, vanity plates cost more money, sometimes a lot more money. I don't know what they are in South Dakota, but in Ohio, where I had them once, they're more than double the normal registration cost (about $125 per year versus about $50 for regular plates). You don't want to spend that extra money only to put something on your car that no one understands.

    hey, hey, hey

One of my sister's wanted to get BRNRBBR on her license plate, but her husband wouldn't let her. When she first thought of this, she was driving a 70 fastback VW.

    Taranau - I love it!

Tedy, I agree with Steve! That is, if you are, in fact, keeping the two crewzers. Or at least when you bring them back out of the barn.

I realize it's a bit contrary, but I'm not terribly concerned about the general public and my vanity plates. I consider it more of an inside joke - those who need to know, will; those who get it will love it; those who don't... well, that's not really an issue for me. Much like my tattoos and piercings, as long as I love them, and my family likes them... the rest is either bonus points or not my concern. It may sound flippant, but I prefer to think of it as healthy self-esteem.

As far as the cost, it's pretty inexpensive here, and I think it's well worth the little splurge to enjoy awesome long-awaited wagon.
