Hiya guys and girls. Been here a while and read this site on and off for a two or three years and finally decided it was time to make my presence known. I'm hoping to come to the good ol USA in about a year with a couple of similar minded wagon folk and pick us up a classy old wagon to travel from LA to NY and back again.. I'm guessing that the odd sweet wag will pop up for sale on here from time to time. I've seen that 68 Polara for sale and just about swallowed my own tongue it's that awesome but it's just a little too soon before I come over. I'll hopefully make myself known around here over the next short while. My current wagon is a 1982 Holden Commodore which I am in the process of building a 308ci V8 to slot in. Oh and I'm co-admin of www.oldschool.co.nz - a classic car community in NZ and the guys I'm heading over with are from this forum. Cheers
Welcome to the nuthouse we call home! You will fit right in around here! When the time comes to get that wagon, you can bet there will be the right one up for sale. With the members we have on here, too, there will be someone to vet it for you, so you don't buy a pig in a poke. You will find the body of knowledge here is phenomenal. If you ever have a question, someone will have an answer. Actually, several people will have an answer, and some of them will be correct! We are also expert at spending other people's money! Be sure to join in. That is the fun part!
Cheers matey - good to know. So where are the good states to buy 60's and 70's wagons from or have they all been thoroughly picked through and only the odd ****ter or are expensive ones left?
When it comes to 'affordable', that depends on your definition. You can get a good, solid wagon for as little as $3,000, but it may need some work, and you can find others that are in the $100,000 range that are immaculate. There are wagons everywhere in between, too. It depends on what you want, and what you want to do with it when the trip is done. As for where, there are many places that are good to look. The other thing is that people and wagons move around, so you may find a pampered baby in the 'rust belt' or a rust bucket in the 'sun belt'. Just check out the eBay/auction threads. We always make all sorts of comments about the wagons there, too. As noted, if you are interested, there is bound to be someone fairly close by to take a look if you want, too. Just let us know what you are wanting, and for how much,, and we'll be sure to find the right one for you.
Welcome, KK. Glad to have you here! When you have your itinerary set for your trip. let us know and maybe some of can set up a meet and greet - perhaps a good 'ole American BBQ or something. Marshall (My namesake uncle is from NZ BTW......)
Cheers - could be a good idea.. Will be hanging around here and posting a bit and get to know you guys better.
