Oh brother, she's far from a show car and I'm not a deep pocket egomaniac. It's one of those drivers that someone enjoyed for many years and was ready to let it go. I'm ready to just enjoy as is, complete with pitted pot metal, rust bubbles and de-laminated glass. The next guy in 20 years can have his way with it. By then maybe he'll throw out the 327 and replace it with a state of the art turbine or geothermal gizo. No car is without things to do and over time I will be working on it updating trim and the likes but I remind myself how I felt when I was 16 and had my 55 chev business coupe on the road. It wasnt perfect and didnt need to be, I was happy and proud just to be able to say it was mine and thats how I feel about how it is right now.
GREAT wagon Lono . I really like the look as is. I enjoy cars that were built in the 70's style that have been used, are still functional, and are being used. Mine fits that model fairly closely. I actually like the wheel/tire combo it now has - its a neat look, but you need to make it yours. I'm very fond of the Nomad body style having owned my Safari for well over 30 years. Like you, I like mine ready to use, no matter what the weather, its a driver like it was intended, and mine has its areas that aren't up to anyones standards but my own. But I own it, not them, so what they think doesn't really matter. Mine is not a show car, its a tow vehicle for our Airstream, and its our wagon driver when we want to go out in style. (well, okay, when I put the engine back in later this summer it will be again)
I'm with you. A 57 Safari... very cool and not far away. We're in Vernon. You would be more than welcome to join us at the Bodwell Dustbowl this year. Hey for that matter, the doors are wide open to anyone wanting to attend a hot rod meet August 10th. The more the merry. Here's a link to information and registration. http://lonostraditional.com/TheBodwellDustbowl.htm
Okay Lono, no one mentioned the gold Chevy coupe next to the Nomad. Let's have some pictures and information. By the way, do you eat on your garage floor? The only time any of my garages looked like that was the first week we lived there.
Hah, eat off the floor? Not quite. It's been a full blown grease pit since I built i but 3 months ago I cleaned out all my parts and I've been working on the "Roadkill Cantina" side of the shop. Now I have the two dream cars I always wanted I dont foresee any more building from ground up. The gold car is my chopped 50 Fword. Chopped 5.5 up front 8.5 in the back. The Roadkill Cantina Car and Grill... home to the Bodwell Dustbowl August 10th.
You're livin' the dream LonoOne with Little Finz and one cut down brick I had ah cut down '51 ah hundred yearz ago W/ ah '51 rocket 88 stuffed in it BTW , I love the door handles on the Cut Down Brick too. How do you decide which chair to park back side in on any given day? OH THE DECISIONS WE'RE FORCED TO MAKE Jer
Great to hear from you again Lono OMG how wonderful, I was tearing up reading your posts 36 years man I hope it doesn't take that long to get Fannie on the road. You look absolutely perfect sitting in there...kinda like the Fonz...you should have a pack of something rolled up in your sleeve. I'm so glad you and your new baby finally found each other...ENJOY!
Lono I am so sorry I insulted your Ford! But across the garage through the wagon windows it looked like a 49-50 Chevy from the side angle. But in my defense the kool chop and frenched lights did change the looks. I had a 49 Ford long trunk coupe kustom with 302 T-Bird and auto. Everything was shaved on it too. Those shoebox Fords are still great cars. If I bring my own airbed do you have room in the corner of the cafe'? |Fannie, only another 30 years or so wait for you.
Hey Rev, all is good. my 58 wagon is now living over in Ottawa. I was very tempted to convert it to a 2 door nomad complete with all ribs, B pillar and everything but knew it wouldnt fill the bill. The new owner is updating the interior a little and keeping the paint as is for now. I'm off today for new tires and wheels so I can pass safety inspection. There's a few minor things I need to attend to so I should be on the road in a couple weeks.
