I know that many of you have had a hate/hate relationship with the weather this year. Even down in sunny north Florida, we've seen temps in the 30's (F) in April, and a drier than usual winter. We finally got some rain, and the spring wildflowers are popping out all over. Some pictures I took in Interlachen earlier in the week:
I would have thought your flowers would have been in bloom a long time ago? You have flowers I have never seen before and they look cool, I'm guessing they are wild flowers native to your area? The purple daises? I have to ask, are they real? I'm asking because I see many flowers for sale with coloured daisys and I honestly though they put food colouring in the water....???? I can't tell for sure, but are these steel magnolia? I have the plant in the back yard, and it is tough as steel! It's the only plant/bush that has survived all of our dogs trampling it over the years in the back yard, and it still blooms every year. The humming birds just love it! It's a sorry looking thing, but it's a survivor... I now know why "steel" is in there name! My other survivor is a cherry tree, the second year lived here a twig sprouted out from under the fence and pointed up, we never planted nothing and well 10+ years later...... And it's a healthy tree..... I like it, it's staying! It's flowers.... Our gargoyle likes flowers... I don't know what these are, they grow wild and are seen every where... Our rhododendron is getting ready to flower... Some of Deb's 2-Lips.... Some are freeken huge! and the kids.... Pine, hope you don't think I'm jacking your thread....Kinda hoping others will post some pics......... some times it's nice just to sit back and smell the flowers
All we have are weeds. We do have a Dogwood tree and a dozen Dogwood bushes. But they are done for the season. Are these Dogwoods?
My plum trees flowered last month. Garden already planted with two frosts since I put it in....but no damage. Peas, lettuce, and sunflowers have sprouted, tomatoes and peppers doing fine. I planted 8 bareroot, dwarf fruit trees and 6 bareroot red raspberry plants. Only 5 are showing growth so far. Pictures are blueberries which are setting fruit, a butterfly bush, and an early clematis. Things are late this year. I had everything picked and canned by June last year.
The photos are all wildflowers. They need rain before they'll bloom in the dry scrub part of North Florida. The purple flowers aren't daisies, they are only about 1 1/2'' across. They're very common here. The azaleas bloomed a long time ago, as did the cherries and dogwoods. Blueberries are ripe now. These little white flowers will become blackberries:
Make that at least 3 of us! Of course, I'm still waiting for spring to arrive properly! No flowers in the garden yet. In fact, this is what last weekend looked like when I woke:
I am just delighted to be looking at, and smelling the flowers, instead of the option of "pushing up the Daisies" .
