Winter has FINALLY let it's grasp go up here in WI, so we all know what that means right? Cruising season!

However..when I went to get my cars out the other day, I was reminded how heavy my wagon was. See, my shed has a dirt floor. Every fall I roll out some plastic, lay some planks down, ad drive the cars onto the planks. They sit there happy and dry. Well, this year is the first year I've had the wagon, and it was backed into the corner. I got my '83 Pontiac out no problem.. drove it right outside with zero issues. Small block car, nice and light.

WELL.. when I went to get the wagon out it was a totally different story. Soon as the front tires dropped off the planks, I could feel it sink. Thought I'd be okay, so I pressed on. Made it just off the planks, and the whole damn car sank.. in a foot of mud! Several cuss words, some help from the truck and a very dirty car later, I managed to get it out. Sadly, the Pontiac drove in those same tracks and barely made a mark in the dirt.

I guess that's what happens when you have a real all-steel big block powered car :)

Maybe one side is softer than the other??
500 - 700 lbs. shouldn't make that much difference, unless you've real skinny tires on it!

I reread the post and says he drove in the same tracks. It does seem odd. Was this an area where the snow was heavy and has recently melted? Could make a difference in the ground being soft.

she ain't heavy, she's my wagon

My 68 Colony Park had a curb weight of 3,975 lbs. My 86 Colony Park had a curb weight of 4400 lbs. My 77 Dodge Aspenwagon weighed in at 3,795. Both my 91 and 94 Tauruses weighed in the same as my 68 Colony Park. Taurus stationwagons weighed in at 4,100 and 4,200 lbs. Being small with a smaller block, doesn't always mean a lighter car.

My 79 Thunderbird, base model, no A/C, 302, crossed the truck scales at 4,080 pounds. Bertha, the big block Grand Marquis sedan is about 800 pounds heavier. The wagon versions of both would be another couple hundred pounds more again. These are not light cars!

The shed floor is kinda odd...one of those things where you can drive over it once..but the second time you sink like a stone. The Pontiac weighs around 4500.. I have no idea what the wagon weighs ('65 belair)

And I have NO pictures :(

A basic model '65 Chevy bIg block wagon weighs in the 4400 pound range without options. The '83 V8 GP weighs about 3400 pounds.

Tire contact patch is also a factor. I remember reading somewhere long ago that a man's footprint was deeper than an elephant's.
