Ok so, alot of people generally like to eventually learn the limits of their auto mobiles. my question is: whats the weirdest place you've ever taken your wagon through? howd it fair? ill tell you mine. I am a boy scout (current rank: star) and for summer camp i needed a car to get out there. so one day i decided id take the olds wagon out to this camp which is like the middle of the woods and see how it fairs. now this camp is pretty deep in the woods. its only got dirt roads and during rain storms it gets rough from the rain out sections. so i started the wagon down the dirt path. cruisen at a good 5 mph for this road the wagon did perfect. didnt have any problems. so i decided to take it down so weird paths. and surprisingly as all stock the wagon faired better on some of the wash out spots better than some 4 wheel drive trucks!! now i wasnt flying through em. i crawled it through, but it was amazing. i had people staring at me when i showed up to my scout classes rolling out of a narrow path from the woods with the wagon. so much fun!
waaaay baaack in tha day...i hada 66 falcon wagon that i used for my company vehicle. one summer i got a bug up my butt...put big block springs in the front and a lift kit in the back...some big old ugly 'Desert dawgs'....and drove it like a 4x4!!! that poor thing went up mountain paths that 4x4's couldnt get up!! that was a good ol car...poor thing died a ugly death
Well, I live just off a dirt road, and near a lake, and I haven't done it yet, but we plan on 'going sideways' down the dirt road, and out to the lake for something resembling a slat flat run.
Northwest of Calgary, Alberta, are a whole bunch of hydro roads in the Rockies. My dad came out to see my new factory (clocks), and I was driving a big 4-door HT 1972 New Yorker - 440 loaded with all options. He wanted to see Calgary from the Rockies. Those hydro roads are dirt, often single lane. It was a dry, warm July. We did stuff with that thing that I'm sure Mopar never planned for. We took turns driving too. The old boy had sand, man! His years of driving a 1958 Hemi Imperial sure served him well. He made my 1972 dance! Fun trip.
I knew of this guy who had a '64 Chevy II wagon that off roaded it with his delinquent friends in his misspent youth. It had the word "Hootenanny" painted on both sides with house paint for some reason? Living in the suburbs if there was grass with no fences or bushes between point A and B it was time for off roading, getting to point D and J via point N worked too. The drive-in movie lot had good terrain, great bumps and gravel. I heard that guy was at the drive-in one time and purposely left the speaker on the window when he was leaving. He just kept pulling until the wire snapped and yanked the pole over a little in the process. Amazing the window didn't break, even more amazing is how fast that thing flew over the bumps with a couple of guys that worked there running after us, I mean him.
I won't be off-roading my Fairmont. But we had a Subaru Justy I certainly took off the beaten track in the pursuit of wily rainbows, brownies, and speckled. While I was out on an island on Lake of the Woods late in March, it rained, and the entire lake flooded with about 8" of water on top of the ice. The ride back dry land was quite the experience, looking more like a boat than a car, with spray and a wake!
I worry about loose male dogs more than getting clean mud on my whitewalls. They all have to mark their territory and can smell nice clean whitewalls out like a big juicy steak. Some little beggar has gotten me a few times, all four tires, if he could figure it out he'd take the cover off and do the spare too. My neigbors and I all have female dogs, why would male dogs be hanging around all the time?
A guy here in Canada some 30 years ago was written up in the Toronto Star newspaper's Weekend magazine about raising a wolf on his suburban farm (8 acres). He figured out that the way to control the wolf was to 'mark off' his territory. The wolf took it on himself to keep the owner away from his own wife, until he marked off the wolf's limits. A more civilized way is to spray vinegar on the tires or under the wheelwells. Works great around here to keep the cats out of my yard.
cats ?? i just love cats they taste just like chicken but seriously i,ve heard of chilly powder,, vinegar,, cayenne pepper,,,ya gotta season em up good mmm, mmmm, yummmy
