New release coming out July 5! 1969 or '70 Estate Wagon driven by the Steve Carell character, looks truly stellar. May be a good movie over all. Here's the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qoaVUdbWMs

The Buick Estate wasn't offered in 1969 so it must be a '70 or later model.:)
The Sportwagon was Buick's top station wagon model from '64-'69, Buick made no full size wagons during those years.
Same goes for Oldsmobile and the Vista Cruiser until the OCC came out in '71.

It looks like yet another teenage boy coming-of-age movie with clueless parents and the cool and fun loving much older male friend that understands his angst.:(

    Looks very promising......

    Got me to thinking.....
Some time back (maybe 2/3 years ago) we had a new member sign on here for the express purpose of finding a station wagon to use in a movie. I wonder if this movie was the end result? Anyone else remember that? Did a quick search, but couldn't find it.....

KK, I remember that they were looking for a very specific model year range on a full size wagon, but I thought it was a clamshell Buick.

Thank you, I had completely forgotten that '70 was when they resumed production of the big wagons. I remembered better that Olds resumed big wagons in '70 as well. It is obviously the '70 as pointed out.

And yes, we need another coming-of-age movie with the same formula as the last three hundred or so. I may at least rent it, since I'm not real big on theatre prices.

Actually, the '70 Buick Estate Wagon is somewhat of an odd duck. It was still on the old '65-'70 platform. Neither Olds nor Buick had sold a wagon on that platform up until then. Buick decided to add one. Olds did not, until the next year when the clamshell models came out.

A movie with a beautiful station wagon and girls wearing bikinis....a true recipe for success. An the Emmy goes to....the Buick.:1st: Hopefully the "coming of age" doesn't happen in the back of the Buick. It would really be a shame to christen that lovely upholstery-work.

I'm sure you all noticed the poster art has a clamshell wagon on it.

IIRC, the poster wanted a 'clamshell', but then mentioned something about needing one with a rear-facing third seat. We all had to tell her that the clamshells had forward-facing third seats. This partially explains why there's a clamshell in the movie poster, yet a '70 Buick non-clamshell in the movie.

I assume we are looking at the wagon and no other eye candy, right?
