When I bought the Galaxie wagon and drove it into my garage at the back of our house, I found the original standard brakes woeful. Now have duel pot with vacuum power booster to fit from Dearborn Classics USA. This baby is gonna stop good from now on. Edd
Years ago, I had a 64 Country Sedan with power brakes. I absolutely hated the power assist on the drum brakes. There was no sensation of increasing resistance as the brake pedal was pushed, so it was difficult to know just how hard you were applying the brakes. On many occasions I unintentionally pushed the brake pedal a little too hard and either locked up the brakes or just about put myself through the windshield. I have power disc brakes on my 68 Charger. They aren't nearly as bad but the feeling is similar. I just don't like the power assist on 60's cars. I hope you like your power brakes better. For me, I prefer my old cars with the manual brakes whether they are disc or drum brakes. On the other hand, your new master cylinder with two reservoirs is a smart safety conversion. I know Chrysler didn't put dual reservoir master cylinders on cars, as standard equipment, until the '67 model year.
Power brakes on '60's cars Thanks for the info,Jim,I just prefer power brakes on all my cars, I guess it's what i'm used to. Have 1965 Thunderbird, 1963 Galaxie convertible, 1961 Cadillac convertible all with power brakes and maybe I like it cause i'm a lazy driver. Edd
It would also be a great time to upgrade to front disc brakes as well. Parts from a '64 Galaxie that had them, or maybe a '65-'66 T-Bird should fit.
