Hello all. Would anyone know if a '66 country sedan or squire two way tailgate can be installed on a '65 country sedan, assuming one has all the hinges, etc?

    Thanks

I believe the opening is the same for the 2 years, even if there are differences in the skin. They should be interchangeable, although the look may be slightly different.

I am pretty sure if you have the Magic Gate like mine they are all the same from 65-68. My 68 I just got done stripping has a 67 gate that I pulled off of it and from looking around on the net there are a lot of things that are the same from 65-68 on these wagons. By the way I seen your other post with the same question and you stated something about moving things from the pass to the drivers side?? What do you mean by this and can you post pics of yours so I can see what you mean? All the magic gates had the same setup and wiring so I need to see how yours is on the opposite side.

BlueOval, if I am reading his thread correctly, his 65 does not have the magic gate option, just the fold down gate. He wants to add the magic gate to the 65, using a donor 66 gate. That would be the dilemma, I believe. In 65, only the Country Squire had the magic gate as standard equipment, I believe. On the Ranch Wagon and Country Sedan, it was optional. Mind, finding one now with the drop down gate is likely very scarce indeed, and that one way gate may well prove to be worth money!

1966 was the first year for the magic gate all trims.

Did anyone ever find a conclusion to this? I have a rusty 1965 drop gate and have sourced a clean 1966 Magic Gate, will be looking into interchangeability this weekend, unless someone knows it's a no go?
