Does anyone know, are the ball joints, caliper and rotors the same on the safari wagons as they are on the Grand Villes (or bonnevilles, catalina, etc)

Using rockauto.com as an interchange manual would indicate that yes they are the same on the Grand Safari as the Grandville.

www.car-part.com uses the Hollander interchange as their database, I use it all the time.

The fr9nt end parts should be the same. The thing is, there are probably regular, economy, and premium grades available. Get the best, highest quality you can. There my also be heavy duty ones specified for Police Package/Trailer Tow Package cars. Those would be the ones to get, as they use a stiller bushing. Given the age of the car, I would be tempted to look at Performance Suspension Technologies in New Jersey, and check on a complete front end rebuild kit. They may even have a complete kit with poly-graphite bushings. These give extra stiffness. On top of that, if you get the complete kit, you get a significant disvount on heavy duty front and rear anti-sway bars with all new hardware. I had looked into that for Nora, before she died, and the complete kit, both anti-sway bars included, was a bit over $500, including shipping to the U.S.

I did my whole front end with with all Moog parts for less than 500 bucks. Besides all the control arm bushings and tie rod ends that included the center link, ball joints, springs, upper control arm cross-shafts, idler arm, sway bar bushings/end links, wheel bearings/seals, and new springs.
Ordered everything from Rockauto and did it all last winter, remember the 5% forum discount. Took me all winter because I just couldn't put cruddy or unpainted suspension parts back on, have to a paint the frame before they go back, then detail the engine because it looks bad next to the nice painted suspension parts and frame..and so on.
    It's a slippery slope.:)
